I am having a wedding band made by Sally at Heart of Water and she was telling me that working with 18k white gold is easier then working with 14k white gold, especially when incorporating fine detail. She is making me a 18 stone blue and white diamond bezel miligrain band. Anyway I guess my question is can I wear an 18k band next to my 14k engagement ring and not have it damage my engagement ring (anymore then wearing rings together usually does)?

Yes, you can wear them next to each other.

Yes, my e-ring is 14k and my 5 stone is 18k and I do wear them together...not alot though but not because of the gold, but because the 5 stone sits higher and bangs my prongs around some....

Same for me.... diamond ering in 18k and 2 bands in 14k. Nobody can see the difference!

I wore an 18kt band and a 14kt engagement ring together for years before I even noticed they were different karats!

If they're yellow gold or pink you might see a difference in colour b/c of the alloy composition but I wouldn't think there would be any significant durability issues with wearing 14k next to 18k (beyond the wear you're going to get wearing any two rings together for an extended period of time, I mean)..

Thank you very much ladies!!

I’m resurrecting an old thread because I would like to know if wearing your 14k, 18k, and platinum together will cause damage to the softer 18k. I stack bands and I worry about some of them damaging my just reset 18k white gold engagement ring setting. TIA!

The bands in my avatar are 18K & platinum. I’ve worn them together for about four years without any issues, though the platinum is now dull. The gold band is curved and made for stacking.

Thanks! I have a 18k white gold stacker band that I keep between my platinum shared prong eternity and my 18k white gold engagement ring but I’m getting tired of using that. I would like to use some other bands but they vary between platinum and and 14k..I don’t want them scratching my newly set engagement ring because it’s softer.

I’m not sure if it’s possible to stack any rings without scratching, but I’ll defer to other PSers with more experience.

Thanks @JPie I just decided to go ahead and wear them together..and monitor it..

Now if the diamond band has exposed girdles, those definitely can cut into the prongs of the engagement ring if they hit at the right place. That is a reason some people wear a band in between the e-ring and diamond wedding band. It's not the metals as much as it is diamonds rubbing the e-ring.

I knew about the diamond girdles and the prongs of a shared eternity sawing away at the the base of the engagement ring..so I know I have to wear a spacer if I want to wear my eternity with my engagement ring. I just was wearing one 18k spacer and not using my other platinum and 14k bands to separate them. I realize the prongs of my eternity will try to chew anything next to it so if I really like a band and don’t want to risk it going through the meat grinder (my eternity) then I won’t use it as a spacer. I didn’t know this when I bought my eternity..and didn’t want to use a spacer.. I wanted to wear it as a wedding band alone with the engagement ring next to each other but I got over it! I just developed a love of stacking! I’m happy I can just wear other different smooth metals next to my engagement ring without it being a major problem.

Yes, it is fun to have a variety of bands! The key with wearing a band in between your diamond eternity and your e-ring is to make sure it is lower than the diamond girdles. Then the diamond band won't hurt the other band. I'm sure you'll figure out your favorite combinations! The new band sounds very pretty!
