Noob in the forum and first time posting.

Anyway, I bought a engagement right little over a year ago and I proposed to my fiance about 5 months after. Because of her work condition (has to wear glove all the time) she didn't wore her ring. Only time she wore the ring was during the engagement photo session and once or twice when we go out and when she went to get her dress. And she's been very carefult with it. Other times, we put it on the ring box inside the safe. but over past weekend, we noticed the ring was bent noticeably. But can the platinum ring bend like this with no reason?

Have you had it sized?

I'm sorry that happened to your beautiful ring. :(sad

"Can a platinum ring bend with no apparent reason?"
Yes, but the key word here is "apparent".
There absolutely was a reason it bent, but the reason is not apparent to you.

Something can only bend when a force is applied to it, Physics101.
Even a feather cannot move, nor a piece of thread bend, without reason and the reason will always be a force.

So, what might be the reason?
I'd guess it's likely that when wearing the ring something hard was inadvertently gripped very tightly, but the wearer was not conscious of doing this.
It's also possible it was always that way but it was not noticed.
We are busy living our lives and using our hands.
It's understandable we can't be vigilant 24/7 of limiting what our hands can do when wearing a thin ring.
I'm afraid that the solution to this problem is a thicker stronger ring.

Unfortunately there is high demand for thin delicate rings that can not stand up to every possible thing that some wearers subject them to.
Just because something is made doesn't mean it's 100% safe for whatever every person may inadvertently subject it to.
Unfortunately sellers who refuse to make uber thin rings lose business to their competition.

The worst examples are those 1.8 mm rings encrusted with diamonds on 3 sides. :nono:

IMO people should made aesthetics a second priority behind durability.

I can’t tell where it’s bent?
it looks like it’s a very slim band and it is set with diamonds?
While people love those skinny under 1.8mm wide bands, they simply lack substance to withstand pressure ie when you grab something and your ring takes the brunt of impact. You might not even be aware of it.
And If you add diamonds into the skinny band, you are taking away even more structure and substance.
so it’s not that Platinium is weak or bends easily, I think the style of skinny band combined with diamond melee is the problem.

do we actually know what the width of the band is?
do we know it's 1.8 or less?
is there a plat mark stamped on the inside band?
I actually find this very odd... i am very hard on jewelry and bend gold rings enough that I don't really wear.. I have not had that happen to any of my platinum bands and I have one that is 1.4 in width

I think if this is platinum.... she would have known that she did something "hard"...

There are two real possibilities:

1. She did something to bend it that would have bent any similar ring without noticing

or

2. There is some sort of porosity or other manufacturing problem

I would take it to an independent appraiser (not one associated with a jewelry store - there's a list in Pricescope resources by location that should help get you started) and have them evaluate it for any manufacturing issues, so that if that turns out to be the problem, you have backup when asking the original jeweler to remake the ring.
