Can someone please educate me as to why this jade ring is so expensive?

$248K for the item and $957.90 to deliver. I asked the seller about the shipping cost (thinking it had to be a mistake), and this was his response:
"One of our security officers will hand deliver the ring. Round airfare tickets pretty much to anywhere in u.s. on short notice.
Or we can have the ring delivered with Brinks Security Services. The cost will be $1,500 one way."
He said he sells his jade at Christie's and Sotheby's.

Ripoff. That is certainly no imperial green. Needs a rewax as it's old and slightly dried out. Setting is cheap.

Usually greens are very amped up in photos owing to the camera and you have to mentally dial down the colour as they look too good. This doesn't even look good before dialing down.

On eBay you can ask any price you want, whether or not someone buys it is another thing altogether.
Jade is difficult to assess and buy, you need to be an expert. And without an appropriate lab report and seeing it with your own experienced eyes, forget it.
True, jade pieces do sell for millions of $$$$, truly rare and magnificent pieces however other pieces sell for like $5. Without the benefit of a lab report and knowledge and experience with jade, $240,000 could be a bargain price, merely a good price or perhaps a total fools price.

I's say avoid the seller. He has other even more suspect prices for utility jade pieces. 6k usd for a dead looking jadeite ring? Nope. And ditch the security guard lies. I mean, sounding very Crazy Rich Asians but really, it isn't like this at all.
