Can you catch a rainbow?

Like a good PSer I take lots of pics trying out different lighting and angles, and noticed that typically there are lots of colors all over the stone, but rarely lots of colors on one facet. I only have a handful of pics where I have a facet that shows the colors of the rainbow. These are the best 2 pics. If you have caught a rainbow on your diamonds share here.

I don’t think this is quite what you meant, but I joked that I saw a “feather” in my VVS2 CBI. I was unable to recreate this! All the colors of the rainbow.

@kgizo I NEED to see your setting- profile, etc!! I feel like I need a bit wider band and yours looks perfect! I have been searching and searching! AND it's 8 prong AND looks like it has some cool stuff on the side of the shank!! Please share and if you can, where you got it too Pretty please

I especially love making rainbows with Ella (that’s my diamonds name) when on airplanes. They go everywhere like a disco ball

This is the same CBI— My phone can’t make sense of the light show, so it blurred everything out and this is what I was left with. Pretty cool, and again—I can’t recreate it! But I try.

Does it have to be just diamonds?! I did a photo shoot with most of my gems and caught a few rainbows. I only have one diamond. A tiny yellow emerald cut. Others are spinels, a heliodore, a lab alexandrite and a scapolite. The scapolite is one of my brightest gems!

I think @kgizo is talking about something different than fire (but correct me if I’m wrong!). This thread inspired me to enjoy my coffee on my couch with a large picture window at my back. We have wide wood slat blinds that are open.

This CBI is .90 F SI1 (previous one was .80 H VVS2).



I tried to catch a rainbow in the upper facet off the edge of the diamond. Not very successful, but the phone camera started blurring the diamond. It made see these big oval flower petals, and this surprised me! Why wouldn’t the shape be angled? Why is it rounded?




Then I started getting a little freaked out, because THIS is the “hall of mirrors” effect people talk about with CBIs when I had read reviews. These reflections are the wood slat blinds behind me. Feels a little like a horror movie scene.

I love this thread! It reminds me of the fire thread but rainbows are fun too.

I enjoy a good excuse to look at diamond pics and I found this one:

Thank you! It is a modified crown 8 setting from Old World Diamonds. It is comfortable to wear and easy to clean. Please excuse the fuzz on the diamond, it is sweater weather right now.

It’s a 2.3ct I SI1, freshly cut about a month ago! AGS graded it as an H, but HPD contested the color grade down to I
