Can you guess?

Oh no! Maybe it isn't DSS but actual or my hands are humongous.
It is 2.04 ct. GIA measurements say 8.13 - 8.14 x 5.02 mm.
When I see 2 ct hand shot pictures on Pricescope or elsewhere they appear very big, but I'm the opposite.
How is that a 2 ct can look so shockingly small on my hands (4.5 fingers)? My setting is sort of low I guess does that make it look smaller?

Thank you for all your honest responses!

P.S. Goldfish8 - the settingn is 18k white gold with pave's and it's from my local jeweler's own creation (he said it was made in U.S.A.).

I also need to pick out a wedding band to go with this as my old band is channel set and doesn't really look right with this setting.
Any suggestions?

Yes, I think it's just the setting. 6 prongs generally make a round stone look fuller and bigger. It's an optical illusion. Obviously, a halo does the same. And high set settings also help. But trust me, your ring is beautiful and very blingy!

It might also be that your dimaond is cut deep so though it hits the 2ct marker it could face up smaller.

If DSS is setting it then defiitely get a halo. I put one around my 2.04ct and I LOUVE IT!

And oh, in real life, my coworkers think it's right around 1.5 ct too! :(sad
Maybe I should change the setting.
I think your ring is really beautiful, so I'm trying to understand your concerns. Do you not like the ring or did you love it until someone started saying that it looks smaller than 2 cts?

The reason I'm asking is because there are so many opinions out there (depending upon their perspectives), and you only need to worry about what YOU think, you know what I mean?

Also, no matter what you do to try to make it look larger (eg, halos usually work well for that), there will always be someone with an even bigger stone. So just make sure that whatever you decide to do, you really love the ring in its entirety (not just the center stone, but the overall design & flow as well) because that's what's really important. In fact, since you're considering getting a new wedding band, why not work w/ a jeweler to design a new ering setting AND wband that will work well together and showcase your center stone in a way that you'd love?!

i love my stone, but after seeing all the beautiful settings here on PS, I am thinking of changing the setting to make the stone pop more. So far Vatche settings seems very popular here in PS and I'm loving the beautiful Caroline & Swan settings. Something to think about...

Pick me! Pick Me! I'm the one who said 2.25!!!! That b/c it looks like my mom's 2.25 ct. on my 4.25 finger. I don't think it looks small at all!! Do these co-workers have diamond rings??? A picture on the computer may be difficult - in your case I just compared it to my own hand, but I know for a FACT I would not look at at 2 ct round brilliant solitaire and think it's a 1.5!!! BTW - it looks gorgeous on your lovely hand!!!

I think it looks huge and gorgeous on your long, pretty fingers

thanks starrynight, motownmama & everyone!
janesmith - haha i know what you mean, scones, clotted cream & a pot of tea for me everyday and i'm not even english!
been obsessed with downton abbey lately too!

I had 2cts in my mind and scrolled all the way down to see your answer. I love this kind of guessing game! I should have done that with mine because DSS set in immediately and I am seriously thinking of going halo... mostly because I don't think I will ever be able to budget for a stone large enough to quench my finger coverage thirst! Halo option will be cheaper! lol! You have a very sparkly stone! It is either cut deep or it is the setting that is giving you the perception of facing smaller...

I think you have really long fingers and palm, and that makes your hand look bigger overall, it has nothing to do with yout finger size. I have the same problem. Even though my centerstone is ring is 1.81 ct, it looks like a 1-1.5 carat on me. I have a friend with a 3/4 carat solitaire and her fingers are a size 6, but her fingers are very short but tapered, and her solitaire looks "big" on her!

I think you're ring is beautiful, and so is the setting.

Yeah, I agree with this, I think hand size/finger length enters into the perception of how large a stone looks, not just finger size...I think your ring is gorgeous and shows up beautifully! And I'm jealous of your pretty hands! :cheeky:
