Hey all- feel free to take what I''m saying with a grain of salt, as I''m a first-time poster. The reason I''m posting this at all is that a previous thread on these forums referenced www.canadadiamonds.com, which is a site I have been (or should say was) looking at as a possible source for an engagement ring. Anyway, that old thread came up in the top few google hits, and was one of the only references to the site I could find when checking out what kind of feedback they''d received. That thread was locked, however, and from 2004, so I figured I should start a new one.

Since I''m about to go into a bit of detail, let me just post my main point right off, in case anyone doesn''t feel like reading:

I''ve come across some shady stuff going on with www.canadadiamonds.com, so anyone who is considering purchasing from them should be wary.

Anyway, part of my "research" involved something I saw on their site- specifically, the front page of www.canadadiamonds.com features the seal/logo of the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct, and they claim, or at least strongly imply (the grammar is either unintentionally bad or intentionally misleading) that all of their diamonds are covered by the CDCC. Since I''m new to diamond shopping, and trying to learn as much as possible, I located their website (which wasn''t linked from canadadiamonds.com, which should have been a red flag). The CDCC''s website is here.

On their site, they provide a list of retailers, non-retailers, and mines who are "members", meaning that their diamonds are certified by the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct. Well, www.canadadiamonds.com is NOT on any of those lists. So, I emailed the CDCC and asked specifically about canadadiamonds.com- the next day, I received a response saying that they''re NOT a member, and that they''d already been asked to remove the seal from their site.

Now, again- I''m a novice. For all I know, the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct might not be that big of a deal. However, regardless of whether that''s a prestigious certification or not, the fact that canadadiamonds.com is lying about their certification concerns me, and should concern anyone who is thinking about buying from them.

To be fair, and to allow for the possibility of a mixup, I emailed canadadiamonds.com explaining what I''d found thus far, and asking them if they had any kind of explanation. Actually, I''d already emailed them for some more general information three or four days prior, while I was still thinking about buying from them- it''s been about a week now, and I haven''t received any response.

So, just saying, for anyone else who wants to buy Canadian and comes across this site- caveat emptor.

Mods, if I''ve posted something you feel is inappropriate, please let me know and I''m glad to remove it. If for some reason someone from canadadiamonds.com comes across this and would like to offer some kind of explanation, please feel free- I''d be glad to take my post down if you have a reasonable explanation for all this. Of course, I''d also be interested in knowing why you''re checking your google results more closely than your email inbox...

Good to know, thanks for the info
