Can't decide between tiffany novo and harmony

Hey guys,

The girlfriend really wants a tiffany ring and I'm still agonizing over three different styles. Does anyone have an opinion? I haven't seen many posts about the harmony (I'm guessing because it's newer) so I thought I'd post. My budget is 10k max. I'm looking to get the minimum level of color and clarity (I and VS2) and maximize carat size (as close to 1 carat as possible). It looks I'd be able to get somewhere in the .72-.9 range.

I was pretty surprised that Tiffany's didn't have many rings with my specs (just under 1 carat, low color/clarity). Does Tiffany not usually carry alot of those? Would the selection change if I waited a month or two to buy?

It may. December is a popular time for proposals, so they may be low on stock.

You should ask the Tiffany associate you are working with though.

I believe they can order from other stores as well - have they tried that?

As to the style, I think only you and your girlfriend can determine that.

The novo is a branded Tiffany's cushion cut, so to some extent, it's uniquely Tiffany. Is that what she wants?

I have a cushion (not Tiffany's) and I enjoy having a fancy cut stone that isn't the same as my friends' beautiful round brilliant rings. Is your girlfriend that kind of girl? Has she indicated any interest in a non-round brilliant stone?

On the other hand, the Harmony's round brilliant is more traditional, classic - more of what people think of when they think Tiffany's engagement ring.

If you don't want to ask your girlfriend, think about what kind of girl she is, and what she may like.

I've also heard of other guys bringing their girl to Tiffany with a tray of several pre-selected rings, proposing and letting their fiance pick their choice.

Since you're asking - Of the three you posted I like the Harmony with the sidetones. Of course I do not know you or your GF -so it's just some random option. If I were getting a Tiff ER, I'd go for the basic 6-prong knife edge and put every penny into the stone.

I'm biased against paying the Tiffany Premium, and would go for a larger diamond like this;

Set in one of Brian Gavin's Tiffany type settings which are VERY close to the real thing.

Alternatively find a trusted vendor - one with a good feedback rating or one that is well known here or one you can take the ring into Tiffany and verify it and purchased a preloved Novo or Harmony on Ebay, get it re-polished at Tiffany if needed and save some $$$$.

Otherwise Tiffany can specifically order you in a stone in any budget.

There's a strong bias against buying from luxury goods vendors like Tiffany, on these boards. I share in it as a matter of fact.

That said, what your lady wants is what matters. There are MANY women off these boards (and some on) that would rather have a smaller Tiffany ring than a larger generic one of equal quality.
