Can''t Decide on Which Setting

Against a ruler - looks like about 6mm, which is the same as my Jaffe

And the width - also about 6mm

ECF,
Thank you so much for the pictures and measurements. Wow, MrsSalvo''s ring sure is substantial. After comparing it to your solitaire, I can see that I have a preference for the stone to be mounted in something simple to highlight it''s size and beauty. However, for $400, that mounting really is a steal. I am as undecided as when I first started looking at mountings.

I just wanted to chime in with an update. I talked to Hap from Quest and as ECF said, he will set the diamond and resize the ring for a fee (which is not unreasonable). He said that it is not a problem for Quest and they will stand behind their work and workmanship. The only thing is that the original warranty (lost melees, free resizing, checking, cleaning, etc) does NOT carry over to the new owner. Oh well...

Nevertheless, it is too good a deal to pass up, so I called Bill Pearlman and bought the setting this afternoon. I''ve looked everywhere online and even the simplest bezel setting in 14kt white gold costs the same as this ring. Don''t even talk about designer rings... Then there was the discussion about the quality of platinum antique replicas that are cast.

So, what is the safest way to send my OEC? I don''t want it to get lost. Where do I get the box and tape?

I''m so glad you got that setting. It''s getting a great new home!!! I would check with your local post office. Mine has boxes and tape. But not all do I guess. When I sent my asscher to Quest I sent it by USPS registered insured. I have sent it twice to them that way, no problems. Slow but gets there safely. Congrats!!!!

Hap said I should ship USPS Next Day.

From past experience, I remember putting the diamond (in its paper) in a small ziplock that I tape securely to the inside of the box. Is this sufficient? Do I have to double box?

YAY!!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations -

Is Bill sending the setting to you or to Quest? And you are sending your stone to Quest for them to do the resizing? USPS Registered Insured is the safest way - it''s under lock and key the entire time, but it does take a little longer sometimes. But any time I''ve ever mailed a really expensive item that''s the way I''ve done it.

I''m so happy for you and can''t wait to see the finished product!

Bill is sending the mounting directly to Quest. Yes, I am sending my stone to Quest to set and resize. I even talked to them about having the stone sit a little lower in the setting, which Hap said isn't a problem but he needs to look at it before giving me a final answer. I recall using USPS Registered Insured in the past so I don't understand why Hap asked that I send it USPS Next Day. He said that he doesn't want the diamond to be "floating" around in the system for days but I thought USPS Registered Insured is pretty safe? Sadly, I had 2 Paraiba tourmalines that I purchased from a vendor get stolen from the Post Office people last year even though it was USPS Registered Insured. Even though the vendor did all the paperwork (which he kept), it was never entered into the USPS computer system nor the parcel sent to me. Fortunately, he managed to claim back the insured amount but believe me, I'd much rather have my tourmalines.

ECF,
Why did you not like the setting? Was the style just not to your liking? I am just curious.

Bumping this thread in hopes that ECF will see this and answer my questions.

Also, I sent out my OEC this morning via USPS Registered, Insured, Return Receipt, and Priority. Phew, what a list! I was told it''ll get to Quest by at least Tuesday. I feel so sad to mail it because now I won''t have any unset bling to play with. I hope the diamond will reach safely.

Oh it wasn''t that I didn''t like it - it is gorgeous! But it''s one of those things where you love it in a picture, or on someone else, but when you get it on yourself it just doesn''t look like "the one" - does that make sense???????

I think you said you were going to use it as a RHR, right? I think that is perfect! For me, financially, I''d love to have it as a RHR but we just can''t afford that, so I was looking at it as a reset for my e-ring, and for my center stone for that purpose it just didn''t feel like the right choice, that''s all.

I''m glad to hear that all the wheels are in motion for you! I think your OEC will look perfect in it - the style of the mount screams for an older stone, and I think it will look much better with your OEC than my smaller RB in it anyway!

PLEASE post pics when Quest is done (I assume they''ll take some as they did when it was completed for mrssalvo initially) and more when you get it - hand shots are mandatory, you know!!!!!
