I like the plain one or the one with the diamonds. The one with the colored stones just looks too busy to me.

Unfortunately the one with the diamonds is double the price of the semi precious stones. I still like the plain one best. In 2009 that bracelet was only 2k and change. Now it is 5k in change...crazy price increases!

Yep, pretty crazy price increases alright! I'd be looking second hand.

I've seen them on Dover and Israelie Rose for less, but not signficantly. I bought mine overseas so with the VAT refund I actually ended up saving about 1k off US prices.

Hi Sarahbear! What country did you purchase your bracelet in? Did you pay the full retail price in that country and everything saved is just from the VAT? I'm traveling to the Carribean and Europe within the next couple months and desperately want a discount off US prices on a white gold Love.

Sunshine, sorry for the threadjack! To answer your original question- plain, definitely! Love the classic screw design and you lose that with the stones.

I vote for the plain. While the semi-precious stone bracelet is lovely, I could not imagine wearing it everyday. It's a little too much. I have the plain rose gold one and I adore it. It goes with almost everything, it is timeless, classic, and I never get tired of wearing it. I feel like the colorful stones would clash/detract from the beautiful color of Cartier's rose gold. Just my 2 cents!

Hi all,

thanks for all your answers! I think I may be getting a plain one, and the semi precious Love somewhen down the road.

I just wonder if the stones of the bracelet would be very durable? I read that semi precious stones could bleach out when exposed to sunlight and worn often.

I know all Love bracelets are designed for 24/7 wear, but do you think that the semi precious bracelet will hold up well for years and decades to come?

TIA!

No one? :(

Are they all sapphires? If so, they should wear okay I would think.

No, there are also amethysts and garnets.

Do they hold up well, too?

No, they will easily scratch and show facet wear unless they are really recessed. Amethysts particularly are not hard. I would only consider diamonds on that bracelet.

I think they are quite recessed, but I'm not sure by how much.

Even if they are recessed, do you think they would bleach out over time due to sunlight, creams, shower gel, etc.?

The SA said that this would not happen, but then again, it's her job to say that.

I love the plain bracelet. I think it is classic and elegant. It has actually been at the top of my want list for a few years.

Amethysts don't typically hold up well to everyday wear. I know the stones are recessed, which will protect them some, yes, but if I were making the decision, I would personally not go with the stones. I'd only really feel comfortable either wearing diamonds or the plain one.

Thanks for your answer! So do you think that the stones would look rather "cheap" or damaged after a few years' or decades' of wear?

Well, I don't think a Cartier piece would ever look "cheap," and I doubt many people (if any) would notice any scratches but you, but if you're making this choice for a piece to wear for several years or decades, I think the plain is the better option. It's timeless and more durable.

ETA: I think the plain one would look GORGEOUS stacked with another bangle with rainbow stones in it. I bet it wouldn't be hard to find something complementary to wear with it as an accent piece rather than an everyday piece.

I think they will collect gunk and not look all that great if worn 24/7, 365 days a year. That is contrary to everything we say here about caring for fine jewelry. The bracelet in that pic is really scratched up and that would drive me nuts.
BUT...it is quite clear that you want the one with the colored stones so you should get it regardless of the fact that 80% here have said they prefer plain or diamonds. It's your preference that counts!

You're right, I'm indeed drawn to the rainbow bracelet. But then again, it is a lot of money to spend and I would want the bracelet to look good forever. I guess I'd be devastated if the stones got damaged/bleached out in a few years... after all, I want a bracelet that I can wear without worrying about it too much.

The stones won't bleach out. There ARE stones that do that, but the stones in the Cartier are not those types of stones. They will get damaged (nicked, abraded, maybe cracked if hit hard enough) over time but that can be ameliorated with awareness of what you are doing with your bracelet arm. Damage WILL accumulate over time, especially if worn constantly, as it appears people do with these. Fine jewelry shouldn't be worn 24/7/365 if you're not prepared for the damage that will result - the materials just cannot take it. With that said, if you love the colored stone bracelet, get it. Insure it. Wear it. And get it cleaned/polished/checked regularly.

I agree, the one with precious stones is too busy for me. I prefer the look of the classic gold one. For the precious stone one, could all the stones be 1 or 2 colours? That'd make it less busy.

Amethyst too soft for regular wear? Really?
I'm surprised, as being of the quartz family, I've always understood amethyst to be fairly robust.
I have a very old amethyst with not a scratch.

ETA: There is something else I wanted to mention to you, OP.
On another forum recently I noticed a woman was having problems with a dermatitis-type skin condition from wearing her bangle 24/7. However, this was the WG version. Just wanted to let you know in case you were sensitive and needed to consider it.

Thanks for mentioning this to me! But I don't think that I will have problems as I've already been wearing a rose gold bracelet (a smaller one though) for a few years.

Yes, these bangles are meant to be worn all the time and, of course, they will get scratched eventually. I'm fine with that, but I was just concerned about the stones. After all, the semi precious bracelet costs quite a bit more than the plain one!

The Love bracelet is meant to be worn 24/7, hence I'll get a plain. I'd be concerned about wearing semi-precious stones 24/7.

I completely meant to update you about the Cartier bracelet. I actually went into Cartier at the beginning of this month when I was in NYC to have them just do a quick cleaning (costs $100 so I wouldn't bother in the future), and they had the one you were looking at. It was very pretty but I just really can't see wearing it 24/7. The sales girl was wearing 2 stacked (both RG plain and SP) and it was gorgeous. She let me try on a WG SP bracelet with my diamond one and I have to say the stacked looked is killer. It is now on my list of jewelery purchases down the road. I was really surprized with how much I liked it, because I have seen them before but not really liked the look of a stand alone with SP stones.

So have you decided on which one you will get? I honestly dont' think you can go wrong either way. Though I think you will apprecaite and get more wear out of a classic plain one for now.

Oh wow, you have seen this bracelet? Do you think it looks prettier in real life than in pics? I'm not quite sure yet, I would like to get both evenutally. I would love to stack a plain and a SP but is that likely to cause any damage to both bracelets?

Yup I saw it. It was very pretty. I stacked it with my WG Love to see the contrast....sorry I didnt' take photos. If the plan is to get both then I would buy the plain one first. Then get the CS version down the road. Is there any way you can get into a Carter store to look at them.? the other option is to buy both. See them and then return the one you don't like. Just a thought.

Yes, that would generally be an option, but in my country there's no Cartier online boutique so whatever I order from the boutique I have to keep or exchange for another piece. I'd be stuck with store credit only. No refunds.

But I really like the semi precious in pictures, and many people say it looks even prettier in real life. Plus, I'm not sure if this is a limited edition or not.

As you have seen the bracelet, can you tell me whether the stones are set nicely? In pics they sometimes look a bit like a bull's eye (sorry, don't know how else to describe it).

it is not limited edition. It will be around for awhile though their might be small changes. And I'm pretty sure you can special order it down the road. The gemstones are set like the diamonds so yes it is like a bull's eye. here is a close up of one of my diamonds. Sorry the picture isn't as clear as I would like, but it is hard to do it 1 handed.

Sorry, I can't see any pics!

Do you think that the way the stones are set looks nice in real life? I just want to make the right decision!
