Before deciding to buy from HW, I wanted the Ballerine from Cartier. I found a used three-stone ring from a sell in L.A. and was going to get the center stone reset in the Ballerine setting. Luckily, before going through with everything I went to try the ring on and although the ring is beautiful and very classic, it did not look good on me.

Anyway, I did find out how much it would cost to reset into that setting so I thought I''d let everyone know. It is a whopping 15,000 dollars!!!! Talk about expensive. I was thinking maybe around 10,000 max but not 15,000!

Gosh, that sounds like a lot but I guess that is what it is. If you are going the high end route; I would want to know all their upgrade policy's and other policy's before buying. A lot of us bought from an online vendor and have been quite happy. Best wishes

Ouch. That number hurts....

I thought Cartier doesn''t set outside diamonds into it''s settings?

For 15k you can get a whole new ring diamond and stone that is non-cartier that has the similar look. Ever consider having two rings, this could be your rhr?

I understood the OP to mean that she wanted to get an old Cartier ring for a resetting.

Maybe it''s because of the delicate detailing and side stones, but that strikes me as a really high price, even for Cartier. Even with the steep prices of platinum these days, it costs less than 1k for a new knife-edge solitaire reset at Tiffany''s (in platinum of course).

WOW! That is so high! I also heared that the Tiffany knife-edge re-mount (with a Tiffany diamond prev. owned obv.) is around $1,000---And I am sure their baguettes, or bead-set diamond settings are a bunch but not more than $5000....

So I could not imagine, even at Cartier, that the setting would cost $15,000-----

The original ring was a Cartier three stone ring. I''ve read on here that they sometimes will set a diamond that isn''t originally theirs but it''s a tough process.

Yep, I couldn''t believe when I heard it either! Btw, their simplest setting is 4,000 dollars and the 1895 is about 12,000 dollars. They don''t come cheap do they. I still love the 1895 and Ballerine regardless, but I''ll have to admire them from afar! I might have my original ering set in the classic 1895 once I get my Winston.

ginzagirl-it was a good idea, if only the settings were less expensive :)
