Cat's eye aqua - Shall I go for it?

A cat's eye aqua caught my eye last night. The picture looks like a milky aqua, which I am fond of. So I asked David at multicolor.com for a side view. (To my surprise) He shot a video of it right away.

In the video, the greenish-blue color looks deeper, but I can see quite a bit of inclusions near the bottom of the cab. I also notice there are some small black dots scattering on the surface of the cab.

I know it's not perfect; otherwise it would either have been faceted or demand a higher price, but should I still go for it? I haven seen nicer aqua cabs here on PS. Here is the link to the stone.

It looks pretty and it is a good size. You should download the Identification Report. His photos there, though the same pic, are usually more color accurate, and there is info on things like tone. This comes up as very light in tone and slightly grayish. I would hold out for something with a better eye and much better color.

i've seen better. this one doesn't appear well polished and seems to have some imperfections. if i were paying that kind of $ for a cab i'd expect perfection.

Thank you VL and MZ. I will take your advice and hold out for a better cab. Hope something nicer does come along as I love pretty aqua cabs!

With that stone you are definately paying for that size..if it was me, I would sacrifice some size to get the better color, less inclusions, etc. Being over 40cts, you are almost limiting yourself to a pendant, if you are looking to set the stone. A smaller stone would give you more options, no? Just my 2 cents.

Yes, something smaller (within 20 carats) will definitely be more flexible. It's just that nice aquas seem to be hard to come by, so I thought maybe I should grab this opportunity.. Now that I've decided not to get this aqua, I could use the $1k elsewhere, perhaps for a necklace.

Sometimes ACS and The GemTrader offer aqua cat's eyes during their monthly drops.
