I nearly cheered when I read this today. The Maher Arar case made me ashamed to be an American. The subsequent refusal of our government to admit wrongdoing made me doubly ashamed. Perhaps now I will begin to raise my head again.

Yeah I know, I know...sigh.... I''m a bad person to not recognize that every action of our government (like it isn''t comprised of flawed individuals) is completely beyond reproach.

Wow, ksinger/Karen, I think I agree with everything I''ve ever seen you post! First the Duggar thread, then the McCain thread, now this...I think I have a cyber crush on you!

LOL! I''m sure that''s a first. I''ll mark it on my calendar.

And on that inevitable day, (oh...about 10 minutes from now, I''m guessing) when you DO disagree feel free to hammer me and point out how horribly flawed my reasons are. I won''t mind.

Hahaha-will do!

Did you happen to catch the movie Rendition (Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep and Jake Gyllenhaal)? It touched on this very issue, and I thought it was a very powerful movie.

No, I didn''t. I saw the trailers for it though, and said no way. I find I cannot watch movies like that without being upset for quite a long time. I didn''t go to see Syriana either, for the same reason. I did see about the first 20 minutes of it not too long ago, and even just that confirmed my initial suspicion that I shouldn''t watch it. Gruesome and brutal. I''m sure Rendition was very good, but I just wasn''t up to it...

And one night I actually watched Monster. Kinda wished I hadn''t watched it either. I certainly wouldn''t see it twice. Great acting, and a vision of reality I could do without. (shudder)
