Got my fiances engagement and wedding rings out of the way, and now I''m looking at rings for myself.

I''ve decided to go with a platinum band, but am having a hard time deciding between a brushed and matte finish.

In the case I''m not happy with my decision, could anyone please advise how difficult it would be to change the finish on a wedding band, and what a reputable jeweler might charge for such service.

Thanks in advance, this forum rocks~

It would be possible to change the finish- but I''d be very careful as to who does it.
To go from matte or brushed to high polish requires the ring to be polished.
The job of polishing can make a huge difference in how the ring looks and feels.
I''d ask the seller if they can handle that, if need be.

If you''re going the other way- from bright to matte it''s accomplished a number of ways- again, best left to trusted sources of labor.

The brushed finish is also normally not as deeply imbedded in the ring as a good matte finish and will be easier to remove if you do not like it, but it will also wear off faster than a matte finish. Either can be removed, but at the cost of polishing away some of the platinum. The polishing will not remove as much platinum as it would gold but some small amount will be lost.

As Rock Diamond said, be sure to use someone who has experience with this. They might also have some samples on hand so that you can see what the finishes look like before you have your ring refinished.
