Changing setting - Halo: plain vs. diamond band

Hi,
I'm new to the forum, but noticed how helpful everyone is being (and how beautiful all these rings are!) and thought I would reach out for some advice. I'm getting married soon (yay!) and my fiance' is awesome...but I didn't love the setting he chose for my ring. After some hard convos, we're out searching and trying to find *the* setting for the fastly approaching wedding. My center stone is 1.5 ct so I'm going to use that in a new setting. I love halos...and I also love big wedding bands (think 5-7 prong set bands). I'm just not sure if it's too much bling with both bands having diamonds. I'm not sure what to do... Can you ladies show me some of your halos (plain band or not) with the matching wedding band? I need some help!

Thanks for any help and advice/pictures you can offer! :)

I'm not really sure what you are asking. Do you just want to see any halos with matching wedding bands? Or are you looking for 7 and 9 stone bands that match halos? Or am I way out in left field by myself?

If you are going for an HW inspired halo there are several threads requesting shots with matching bands.

Here were/ are mine.

These maybe some helpful threads too:

I am a huge proponent of plain shank halos. I find them to be very versatile. They lend themselves to mix and match bands very well. They can be any type of pave, or bezel, or bezet or a plain band and look right st home. And they create two distinct rings on your finger, instead of two matchy matchy ones. I think there are two schools of thou, I'm on the non matchy side.

Sorry - I'm really bad with the appropriate lingo you all use! I'm thinking of doing a halo for sure. And then I wasn't sure if I should do halo with plain band or halo with pave (yes, like the HW - but not HW:). I have a round stone and I think the halo looks great. I also love the 7 stone prong set bands for the wedding band. I just wondered how the two would look together. Or if they would look too mismatchy. I'd like to put a thin halo pave with a 7 stone prong-set wedding band, but my fiance doesn't "see" my vision. Thought I'd ask for some advice or examples from you all :)
I'll check out those older posts and see if they have pics too - thanks! This is my ring now...

And this is what i was thinking of doing with the 7 stone prong set band. But then i wondered if a plain band on the halo would go betther. untitled_14.jpg

I think it would. That's personal preference but I don't like the look as much as just a plain band next to a 7 stone.

sorry the first picture I posted was not what I meant!!! It was supposed to be this one.

With the HW inspired you really either need to do a plain band or a matching band. It just looks off to me with anything else. Perhaps you could do the 7 stone as a RHR?

I think it could be beautiful. Visually I would want a thin plain band in between the paved engagement ring shank and the seven stone band. You'll need one too or the diamonds in each band would wear down the prongs on the other ring and you'll loose stones. So since you'll need a spacer anyways, you could get a 1.8mm plain band as a wedding band and then add the seven stone on your first anniversary.

I think you just have to decide whether pave shank or plain looks better on you. I've had both and like plain shank better on me, though I LOVE them with pave bands (to look at, just less on me personally).

With the one I had with pave shank, I found I am not a matchy matchy person and having too much pave didn't look good (on me), but the whole set seemed to flow better when I put something on that mixed, like a plain spacer with pave band behind it, or plain spacer with bezel set stones, or a colored stone band.

The new one, I am still trying to find the sweet spot with bands, but I know the plain shank looks better on my hand. What it will end up going with in terms of blingy bands, I haven't sussed out yet, but here it is right now. It's a 1.5ct OEC center.

And here is my pave shank halo with plain spacer and a 7 stone bezel ring I tried on. I actually really liked this look, but this is a different stone (.93 modern stone as opposed to an OEC).

Just my two cents. I think it's a matter of mindset. If you love the blingy look, go for the seven stone with a halo. It may not look like a cohesive "set", but some people might like exactly that, that it doesn't go together and you rock it all anyway. If you want it to look like a set that doesn't "surprise", (can't think of another word) then go with smaller stones on the band. I like this pic of the halo with the blingy 7 stone a lot. I love surprises, especially blingy kinds! ;)

Two versions... Both matchy matchy....

oh, these pics and comments are SO helpful! And what beautiful rings! Thank you! I'm going to go shopping today and try on a few. I had never heard of a spacer...that opens a whole new world of options. I like the stacked "unexpected" look. I don't know why, but matchy matchy makes my finger look super puffy (or fat...whatever :). Thanks for you input, if I find some options I'll post for opinions. Thanks for the input! love it:)

That's kind of what I found for me with matchy sets too. My fingers looked all puffed up. (Well, they are but no need to call MORE attention to it!) Good luck! Take pics so you can look at them later! And yep, I'd never even heard of spacers before! Or stacking....but now.... :naughty:

First of all, congratulations on your engagement! :D

As far as the bling factor goes... it's all about what you like! (Personally, I'm kind of a bling whore) LOL

Do you want your halo to be perfectly round or would you like more of a cushion-y shape?

Plain vs. pave bands? Hmmmm... Again, it's preference. Mine has pave, but there are some gorgeous PS plain bands out there for sure!!

Personally, I don't really like to do "matchy-matchy" - I like the wedding band to be a little different so that each ring sort of stands out on it's own. :))
