Perhaps this would be more obvious if I were looking at rings in person instead of on the Internet, but is there a difference between channel-set and bead-set diamonds? If I look at one picture that''s describes the ring as having channel-set diamonds and another with a description of bead-set diamonds they both look the same to me. Thanks!

Different looks altogether once you get used to the difference.

Channel set is held in place with the metal on either side of the ''canal''

Bead set is more like little prongs holding the stones in place...

I think it would be more obvious in person if you''re not used to looking at jewelry obsessively like we do...and it would help to see which you like better once you try them on, in my experience!

Channel set:

A series of diamonds are mounted in a groove carved out in the precious metal. A hole, positioned below the gem, is left open in the channel to allow light in.

Bead set are diamonds set with prongs.

"Oh, I see!" said the blind man. Thanks for the clarification.

Also, with round stones, there are gaps in a channel setting.

Are the Tiffany Novo eternities bead-set then?

oops, double post...

I think there are gaps with any eternity band but with channel sets, there are no prongs in between so yes, you can see the space at the tops where the stones meet (there shouldn''t be spaces between the middle of the stones), but since there are prongs in prong and bead sets, I believe the prongs are sometimes in the general space area where channel sets have nothing, making the space at the top of the stones less noticeable since it is occupied by prongs.

I also think channel set is a cleaner looking style, while prong set/bead set tends to look more antiquey. I also think channel set is a cleaner looking style, while prong set/bead set tends to look more antiquey. Having said that, my wband is a vintage Art Deco band that is channel set single cuts, and it used to have a milgrain edge but it''s long worn off in most places.
