just wanted to understand how you worked it... as i am local NYC too...

did you purchase the stone from GOG and then took it to Leon yourself? did you discuss with Leon by phone that you had a stone that you would be bringing in before hand? did you talk to Leon before or after you actually acquired the stone?

at what point did or will you get the insurance coverage? does the stone get insured before the setting work is done?

i am figuring i might do this as well - and i am not clear how i do this and in what order... like should I have insurance before i drive away from GOG with it? or is that overkill?

did you get any closer to deciding on a design????
should i search for the other post??

I am actually not local - I live in Toronto but I go to NYC often. I am not really a true internet shopper for diamonds.

I went to GOG to see my stone and purchased it. I had the stone sent to Richard Sherwood to get appraised. Once I decided to go with Leon, Richard sent my stone to Leon. I had a couple phone conversations with Leon before I went in to see him. In terms of insurance, I believe we are covered by Leon while he is setting. To be safe, I am in the process of getting insurance before he starts setting my stone. I am going with Jeweler''s Mutual. I did not have insurance prior to this as the stone was first covered by GOG and then covered by Richard''s insurance.

For my first ering, I never purchased insurance throughout the process. The stone was first covered by ERD and then by Maytal Hannah during setting.

I am no closer to the design. I have been too busy with work to think about the ring or the wedding! It doesn''t help that my dog (in my avator) is sick and I have a $6000 amd growing vet bill - wish I had insurance for her!

sparklyforever – I have talked to Jeweler''s Mutual within the last moth regarding a similar situation as yours. To get coverage on your diamond before you have it set you will need to get the diamond appraised. GOG will do this for you along with an independent appraiser. You will also need an official work order from the setter (in your case LM) describing what the rind will look like and the costs involved. You have 10 days to get all of this paperwork to Jeweler''s Mutual. Once they approve your application you can get your diamond set and if it breaks while it is being set you will be covered. You will also be covered if you happen to lose your diamond in transit or anything of the sort. When your ring is finally complete you will need to have it appraised again and send that appraisal to Jeweler''s Mutual.

In theory you can get a policy before you ever take possession of the diamond. You just have to work with Leon to get an official work order before he ever sees the diamond. If he ends up doing something different once he has the diamond in possession that is ok. That’s the reason why you have to send an official appraisal of the completed ring once everything is done. I was told that a basic email from Leon stating what would be done and the cost of the ring would not be sufficient for Jeweler''s Mutual.

thanks so much Reggie!
i had no idea all this would be so involved....

are you closer to finding your ring?

sparklyforever – Yes, I have commissioned Jim at James Meyer Jewelry to make my girlfriend a ring. Thanks for asking. Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
