In this highly scientific experiment performed under strict laboratory conditions:
- Photos were taken at 2pm in daylight - overcast and snowy.
- No photoshopping other than resizing.

The chicken hits the oven at 5pm GMT... photos will be taken of the delicate operation to insert the gemstone into the fowl. An ophthalmic surgeon (only one available on a Sunday) has been consulted as to the best site for the stone in terms of heat.

Chicken Kunzite... to be continued!

I've been dying to do this for ages so am so interested in the outcome! BTW I've decided to use the sand/casserole dish approach after Christmas. Any idea what temp gold melts as because mine is set and I can't be bothered to un-set it!?

1065 degrees centigrade

 Then I guess I'm safe to put it in the oven with the setting as well!

Good luck - roll on 5pm. Presumably we'll have a result by 8 or 9 tonight????? I can't wait! BTW are you going to have to cool down gradually or quickly (obviously the Kunzite and not your good self!)? I'm assuming gradually to avoid cracking?

We'll have a written result tonight, but photos tomorrow as I need to have daylight for comparison.

I'm placing the stone quite close to the bone so that there will be better heat retention. I won't be reducing heat gradually in the oven, but by placing it close to the bone it should cool more slowly than it would if it was just under the skin, plus the kitchen is pretty warm. I would hope that will avoid cracking - certainly won't be running it under the tap or anything!

I've wanted to do this for soooooooo long so this is very exciting (I should get out more :loopy: ). Good luck. Hope all goes well. Can't wait to hear what happens. I'll tell you what will be interesting is whether the stone will retain its new colour over time (assuming the heating works).

This is really exciting! I am on pins and needles and it'll be hard to wait until tonight, let alone tomorrow for pics. The paint color samples are a stroke of brilliance!

Exciting little science experiment!

Woah!! It's so exciting..

The kunzite won't brown, will it?

Yeah, but will it squawk?

Can't believe you're actually doing it! Can't wait to see how it turns out, real controlled scientific experiment!

Some pre-oven shots...

More photos tomorrow... chicken was delicious... oh, and it does work... :wink2:

Oh neat! Excited to see results. Initially the most confusing subject line ever :loopy: !

OMG, I'm absolutely dying to see how your kunzite turned out! Pandora, you should start a cooking/gemstone baking blog!

Think about the follow-up recipes. Homemade Chicken Stock + Corundum Bake; Chicken Noodle + Pale Tourmaline Soup to use up the carcass . . .

OMG! This is so exciting!

Can you eat the area around the stone?

We should somehow merge this with the "engagement chicken" recipe.

Pandora - I need an update on Chicken a la Kunzite!
