Can you tell me if this is a nice emerald? I've included a pic of the stone plus the aset. The stone is 1.63 H VVS1
and measures 8.21 x 5.79 x 3.66 Depth is 63.2 and table is 63. Very good on polish/sym and girdle is Medium.

JA states the following:
You'll be happy to know that the gemologist found this diamond to be very bright and to offer great light performance. They especially liked its traditional emerald outline and strongly recommended it as a beautiful option. As you would expect, it appears completely eye clean an offers a true "H" color.

Do you agree?

Thanks!!

i think it looks stunning. I have several EC's so I am fairly comfortable assessing them. May I ask what the crown height is? It appears to be good but just curious. (I am guessing 11/12?)

Thanks Bgray! I honestly don't know what the crown height is. I actually ended up buying the stone but it isn't shipping out until sometime this week. I am getting very nervous about it since I've did this on my own and now I am doubting myself. So I thought I'm going to get other opinions on it before its too late!!!

Should I ask JA if they know the crown height?

it looks like a winner to me. relax--and you can always return it if you are in doubt. One of my stones came from JA. I would ask if they can tell you or run a sarin --perhaps its on the report? personally the crown height is important. gives the stone that 3 -D oomph.

Thanks Bgray, I fell in love with it just looking at the pic. But I have never bought an emerald before and hence the anxiety. Do the measurements seem right for the carat weight? It seems like its facing up maybe larger then it should.

its very very hard to find an EC or step cut stone that isnt deep. too shallow is certainly not ideal. my stone is very similar: the depth and table are close yet the depth is larger than the table which is usually preferable. the key to whether or not the cut parameters will perform is the crown height. now you have an aset which looks pretty good. even asets are not definitive with step cuts. a crown height of 10 and up is best. preferably 12-15. did you check the cut grade parameters for fancy cuts?

Yes it seems to fall in the 1A cut grade. Although I don't have the crown height so that is the only factor I don't know. I've sent JA an email to see if they can provide that information. If its too shallow then it will have a glassy appearance, is that correct?

probably ....based on the aset i doubt it is too shallow but it just gives you a better sense of how brilliant it will be.

Oh and another thing I thought was interesting. "Alrosa" is engraved on the girdle. Would that mean anything?

Thanks so much for your help :-)

i think Alrosa is a mining company....

cool...thanks

Looks to be a lovely EC. Are there any other contenders since JA lets you select up to 3 ECs to get ASETs on? Based on the ASET of this one, I highly doubt it will be glassy. The glassy look happens when the table is too large and the light return isn't good.

The pictures are amazing!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Karl and MMama!! I can't wait to see it. I hope it's as pretty as it looks!

Chrono, nope no other contenders as there wasn't anything else that I liked nearly as well within my budget. I've been watching off and on and as soon as I saw this I was on it right away. It seems hard to find a nice emerald.

Thanks all, I feel less anxious over it now!! I just need to wait patiently until it comes now :-)
