Very unique, and very beautiful. I love it!

I don''t think anything can beat a chunky cushion... I think that stone looks PERFECT in your setting.

Thanks so much for all the lovely comments. I am very pleased with the way it turned out. It was a long hard process, but well worth it. I''m just really grateful to have found the 8 pavillion mains that I really wanted and in such a high quality color and clarity, too, that was also just the right size for the setting! Whew!

Oh, and thanks LittleGreyKitten for the info on the cross. Yes, it''s extremely subtle in person, but the camera sure picks it up. I wasn''t sure if it was an undesirable trait or not, but I thought it made it special so it didn''t matter to me if it was a negative.

Thanks again everyone! You guys are really kind.

OMG what a lovely stone and ring! FacetedJewel, you haven''t been on for about a month, are you still around? I wondered if you had an example of the plot graph (is that what you called it?) of the pavilion? I found a chart somewhere that had a lot of cushion pavilions on it, I''ll attach that to this post. If you''re still around and it matches on one it, can you point it out? I''m getting a cushion too and people have been saying it looks chunky but it looks nothing like yours (to me) I LOVE the chunkys too!! Thanks!

That is one sweet lookin' ring. I love the stone and the setting, very classic, unique, and full of personality!

mausketeer, the OP described it as a 8-pav main so I'm guessing it would be like #5 or #6 in your chart.

How did I miss this? I love Parade settings and chunky cushions. Your ring is gorgeous!

it is very elegant with the new stone and has an old world feel to it... almost baroque.
LOVE IT!

Oooh those are SO cool looking..... yeah, it has the cross pattern to it so that makes sense.... (couldn't be one that split it into the four quadrants)

I love the pattern of #6, looks exactly like an old mine to me...... so they're recutting these, eh? (I mean cutting them now, in new stones) How does one find these other than word of mouth? She had to have her jeweller check all the stones that might qualify to see what cut pattern it is? What a pain!

Hey Jodie,

Yes, the 8-pav chunky cushions are really sweet.....but i'm somewhat biased, since that's what my FI has
9.gif

They are cutting new stones like "old mines" - from my limited experience they are rare and require some determination to find. If you think about it, with modern cutting technology it makes no sense for a cutter to chop off 0.02-0.03 ct to "make" a cutlet.

Personally, when I searched for my FI's cushion I worked with three jewelers on the West Coast who all ultimately didn't understand what I was getting at before I called Mark at ERD in New York. He knows what a chunky cushion is, and can definitely get you a beautiful one.

wow what a unique setting. Sometimes when you see settings with alot of detail the center stone gets lost in the confusion...

Ah, I see. Thanks for all that info Edmund but I just ended up choosing a new cushion. Ring should be done by tomorrow. LOL. Maybe my NEXT diamond ring will be an old mine cut ;) I wonder if they''re calling them NEW mine cuts! Anyways.... yeah, that is one hot damn stone!
