Oooh those are SO cool looking..... yeah, it has the cross pattern to it so that makes sense.... (couldn't be one that split it into the four quadrants)Date: 1/28/2009 3:16:25 AM

That is one sweet lookin' ring. I love the stone and the setting, very classic, unique, and full of personality!
mausketeer, the OP described it as a 8-pav main so I'm guessing it would be like #5 or #6 in your chart.

I love the pattern of #6, looks exactly like an old mine to me...... so they're recutting these, eh? (I mean cutting them now, in new stones) How does one find these other than word of mouth? She had to have her jeweller check all the stones that might qualify to see what cut pattern it is? What a pain!

Hey Jodie,
Yes, the 8-pav chunky cushions are really sweet.....but i''m somewhat biased, since that''s what my FI has
They are cutting new stones like ''old mines'' - from my limited experience they are rare and require some determination to find. If you think about it, with modern cutting technology it makes no sense for a cutter to chop off 0.02-0.03 ct to ''make'' a cutlet.
Personally, when I searched for my FI''s cushion I worked with three jewelers on the West Coast who all ultimately didn''t understand what I was getting at before I called Mark at ERD in New York. He knows what a chunky cushion is, and can definitely get you a beautiful one.
