Hi guys,

Need some big help here and i'm glad to have found this website.

Im buying 0.9 VVS1 D colour with Excellent cut, on the GIA dossier certificcate - it had "feather" as inclusion under clarity characteristics. I understand that inclusion can affect the durability/price of the diamond.

I dont have the GIA report, only have the "dossier" certificate, hence i dont know where the inclusion is on the diamond.

Are you able to help what i should be looking for? say if i was to look at the diamond under 10X, should i be concerned where the feather is located?

A website said i should not be buying a feather which is on the edge of the pavillion (it might causse a durability issue).

Given that it is VVS1, should i be worried?

Thanks all

Ben

This inclusion is affecting the price in only one way: up.

You might not be able to find it under 10X since you don't know where it is.

No durability issues.

you'll be fine. A feather inclusion is very unlikely to cause durability issues. The main issue that causes chips is usually due to absence of care when wearing a ring.

I have a D VS2 that had a feather right on the table edge, towards the pointy end (it's a pear cut). It wasn't visible to the naked eye, just under loupe & only if you knew where you were looking.

I am a practical, hands-on, stay at home mum - also known as clumsy & heavy handed :D

At some point I have bashed the table edge & the feather has completely chipped out & gone :o However, it's durability is unaffected & now it's had the table edge polished up a bit, it would be considered almost flawless. I wouldn't have any worries with the stone you are looking at - go for it. Mine was vulnerable because of where the feather was positioned & it's severity.
