Cleaning earrings with tiny crevices...

I have some very very small diamond studs as well as cz ones that need a really good cleaning because the basket has gotten so gunky. The basket has very small little crevices and I can tell they are just really gross in there (my bad I know I should be more diligent with cleaning them regularly but I keep them in 24/7!) The spaces in the basket are too small for me to wedge anything in it.

Can anyone suggest some type of solution (homemade preferred but store bought is fine too) I can leave the earrings in for awhile to get the gunk out that will of course be safe for them? Thank you! =)2

Place the earrings in warm water with a few drops of Dawn dish soap and let it soak for 30-45 minutes. Brush with a soft toothbrush, and soak in dish soap again as needed.

If the toothbrush bristles are too big, try a natural-bristle lipstick brush.

Thanks you guys I’ll give it ago!

Have them professionally steam cleaned is the best bet.
Have the prongs checked at the same time.
Then use dawn as above to help keep them clean.

I would buy a Magnasonic..You will still have to use the toothbrush and Dawn because you said there’s gunk in the crevices...I actually use a few drops of Dawn in the water..You won’t need to use the toothbrush anymore after you start using it. I’m a little fanatical about keeping my jewelry clean but I have cleaned my mom’s jewelry and she NEVER cleans them..I have to beg her to clean them for her. It’s amazing what a run through the Magnasonic does...I do not work for them!

This might be good after they are cleaned professionally. I find soaking in Dawn with hot water works better than any product designed for diamond cleaning.

Ditto. For awhile, I was using diluted Mr. Clean citrus as a daily soak/scrub, but when the Mr. Clean ran out, I went back to running hot water from the Keurig into a small bowl with a couple drops of Palmolive Oxy each morning, and doing a quick 10 min soak followed by a gentle scrub and rinse. And after using the Mr. Clean for awhile, I find that the dish soap soak actually cleans the diamonds better, and it’s not an ‘extra’ that I need to buy as we use it for dishes as well. My ‘brush’ is a fine-bristled make-up brush that was intended for concealer application. Since I clean my jewelry daily, there is little build-up to warrant anything more.

Diamonds are grease magnets and Dawn is probably the best degreaser that you would want near your hands without protection.
With increased environmental regulations it is even replacing the others in industry and automotive.
It has been used for aircraft engine and other extreme tolerance parts for a long time.

Also good for invisalign retainers, and, apparently, duckling washing!
Good to know, Karl, that I’m playing with the big dogs on this one.

Thanks for all the replies! I ended up doing the dish soap and warm water soaked for 40 minutes. With quite a bit of perseverance and a toothbrush, I was able to get most, if not all, of that gunk out from the super tiny crevices!

Thank you!

Professional stream clean is probably the only thing that will get it all once its built up.
It is better to use real Dawn soap as some dish soaps will leave a residue and its not expensive.

I sometimes use the steam wand on my espresso machine!

Yea I was wondering if the dish soap I had (seventh generation) would be okay. I will grab a bottle at the store of Dawn, to have for the next time!

I find that the bristles on a toothbrush are too long. You’re going to laugh but I’ve been using a mascara brush. They are hard enough that they don’t bend and short enough that they actually scrub. That and Windex always seems to work for me.
