I keep going back and forth between J and K. I know there are some older threads but I would like to hear about them currently.

Show me / Tell me why you love your K diamond and what has worked for it setting wise to give it the opportunity to shine?

Pretty please!

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

I think a K works in certain conditions... You really need an opportunity to see it. I think there are beautiful K's here and warmer!

I've owned an M and I have a K EC. It really is a personal thing.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

If you keep going back and forth, I don't think anyone else's opinions are going to help you decide, since you will be the one wearing it. I think that by choosing J, you are definitely settling for the lowest possible color that you can tolerate and may not be happy settling for lower.

I dont agree with that. People come her all the time saying they want arent sure if they want an F-G, or something, and by being unsure doesnt mean they automatically want the higher color.

See it in person. If you cant go to a GOOD seller with GIA or AGS Ks for you to look at, maybe even consider ordering the stone and see.th These places have great return policies for a reason.

And the obligatory post of my lovely ks.

Niel,
I guess that because OP is requesting K's, I inferred this is the color she wants to be persuaded to opt for with everyone else's stories. And you are right, people do come here for that when they are torn between two choices. I thought that I would offer my opinion...that's all.

:wavey:

your right. I think no one should have to be convinced of anything. And i do mean that in regards to a D, G, or K. I think someone should make an informed decision.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

And I agree with your opinion. K is not for everyone, it's not for me. I think K is also as low as she wants to go and she may be sorry she settles for it instead of a higher color. For others, S is low and a K may be perfect.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

Here is my K EC in natural daylight which I absolutely love and rarely think that it looks "tinted", then again when I first started my search I saw an O color AVC and loved it but I saw a J color radiant and it looked tinted to me so I guess my tolerance is pretty variable depending on the cut style of a diamond. I also think that color shows itself in different ways from diamond to diamond and I recommend seeing the stone you are thinking of purchasing in person to really get a feel of what works for you personally. Good luck and I hope you find the perfect diamond for you!

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

Hi Psers

Thank you for the responses. Not everyday that I make a purchase like this and I just want to try and get it right the first time. Thats why I would like to see more Ks in action. But I realize that it is just something I have to see in person to "KNOW" for sure. I really didn't mean to cause any frustration to any member with this thread. I am simply looking for guidance when I post and in this case wanted to see photos from people who have Ks and hear them talk about the color. Of course if there are reasons you don't like your own stone I would want to hear that too. I am working on a budget and trying to squeeze out as much size on an excellent cut stone that is eyeclean. I have a slightly smaller more expensive J stone on hold compared to a lesser expensive slight larger K on hold.

The truth is the vendors do have excellent return policies so you are right I can ultimately see it and decide.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

This is usual discussion...I don't think anyone is frustrated. I actually own a lot of diamond rings, in all color ranges. I learned after pricescope that if the cut is gorgeous, I can tolerate color. But I do notice the tint, especially in others' rings, and I don't appreciate it...but it could be because those rings are not well cut. In my tinted diamond rings, I love the tint because I knew what I was buying and appreciated the deal...but none of these were huge purchases or for my ering.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

My 2.52 antique EC is a K. I went from a 1.54 H asscher cut and although I can see a difference at times, the warmth doesn't bother me at all.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

An "L" asscher GIA and a "K" rb GIA excellent cut, sides are "J" AGS 0 cut and "I" no cert. but appraised.

The center in the first Rb ring is reset into the three stone, same K colored center.

I love my K because it belonged to my grandmother . I was in an antique setting but I made it into a modern pendant. K color si1 clarityh OMC......80

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

My old cut diamond is a K SI1/Si2 (no report, but three appraisers converge around that estimate). I did not know the color when I bought it which was nice. I fell in love with the cut and appearance before any pre-conceptions could enter the picture. My diamond is set in an enclosed mount so I cannot see the profile and that works really well for me to obscure the tint. I dont notice the tint unless I pair it with a diamond band -- because smaller stones always appear whiter than larger the contast made the tint in my large stone noticable. So I don't pair it with a diamond band!

I previously owned a 1.2ct K Si1 modern RB for a little over a year. It was in a more open mount and I wore it with a diamond band, and did not really like the tint in that diamond. I felt self-conscious about it -- although that was all in my head.

K is a very broad color range, much broader than J. You can have high Ks and low Ks that can look very different. But K is a nice value-color for me. But you do need to wear it for a while I think to really know. Perhaps choose a setting and get a K, then wear it for a while. If you buy from a good company with a long exchange policy you can exchange it.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

I had not realized how many of my PS favorite rings are Ks! Great thread.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

I have had my K EC for over a year now and rarely, if ever notice the tint. I wear it with a five stone band of G EC's and there isn't any noticeable difference. Aside from some DSS starting to set in, I still am extremely happy with my choice and if I upgrade I'll most likely stay in the I-J-K color range to maximize size and stay in budget.
I do think that step-cuts show less tint than some other cuts.

Excuse my yucky dry skin in this picture ;))

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

OP: See them in person, and better, see them in the specific shape, cut/optics quality, and size that you're seeking. Tint is more noticeable in larger stones. Tint is also more noticeable in lesser quality optics. Tint is also more noticeable in different shapes. The nature of it isn't black and white. I have an M engagement ring and love it to death. I thought I could go no lower than H/I, maybe J/K. But this is for an antique old european cut. If I had another shape, I think I'd go no lower than H/I. The tint in my EGL F (maybe really G-H-I, but definitely is whiter than J) pear bothers me.

I believe she's looking at 8-9 ct ideal cut rounds. :wavey:

I agree with Niel. I didn't realize the size she was looking for!! This is really important because the larger the stone, the more saturation of color will show. OP will definitely need to see the J and K colors in stones closer to the size she's looking at. I'm afraid most of our K stones here on PS (or at least the ones posted thus far) will look significantly whiter due to smaller size/faceting, so it may not be the best comparison on which to base her decision. :))

TRY NOTTO FAINT!

My phone erased the "."s

Its 0.8-0.9

So I actually do think Ks are quite smart buys at that smaller size.

Sorry for the typo! Don't get your hopes up waiting for a 9ct SMTB thread!

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

My eternity band was appraised as K color.

Also below is a family shot of my old cuts. The lighting is terrible in it as I was trying to show size difference to another person but it might help a little.

From left to right
5.06ct AC N/O (per GIA)- appears creamy and ivory color to me. I LOVE it!
2.08ct O/P (per EGL, I think it is closer to Q/R)- As a visible YELLOW tint, not creamy.
1.18ct K (per GIA appraiser)- appears white but not stark white like my F colored MRB. No tint or cream color, but has a warmth to it.

What size are you getting? The larger the diamond, the more likely you are to notice the color. Regardless, I think that there are plenty of beautiful K's and unless you're placing it right next to a J or higher colored diamond, you may not notice the color difference. The "mind clean" issue is another thing completely though. If you're not comfortable knowing that it's a K, don't do it.

Yes .80-.90 so not big. But it's funny you mention the "mind clean" issue. I'm going to give that some thought because I hadn't even thought about it.

Re: Cold feet? Show me beautiful Ks and share why you love

This could technically be a K (could be anything, really - it's uncerted!)
Was sold to us as L-M and is set in 18k rose gold. Has lots of different personalities!

ETA: My pictures are a bit crummy. It's been so gloomy here today!!
