I think that by choosing J, you are definitely settling for the lowest possible color that you can tolerate and may not be happy settling for lower.

I guess that because OP is requesting K's, I inferred this is the color she wants to be persuaded to opt for with everyone else's stories. And you are right, people do come here for that when they are torn between two choices. I thought that I would offer my opinion...that's all.
I was just thinking the same thing here.Rosebloom|1380503597|3529406 said:I had not realized how many of my PS favorite rings are Ks! Great thread.

Tint is also more noticeable in lesser quality optics. Tint is also more noticeable in different shapes. The nature of it isn't black and white. I have an M engagement ring and love it to death. I thought I could go no lower than H/I, maybe J/K. But this is for an antique old european cut. If I had another shape, I think I'd go no lower than H/I. The tint in my EGL F (maybe really G-H-I, but definitely is whiter than J) pear bothers me.

I believe she's looking at 8-9 ct ideal cut rounds.![]()

I agree with Niel. I didn't realize the size she was looking for!! This is really important because the larger the stone, the more saturation of color will show. OP will definitely need to see the J and K colors in stones closer to the size she's looking at. I'm afraid most of our K stones here on PS (or at least the ones posted thus far) will look significantly whiter due to smaller size/faceting, so it may not be the best comparison on which to base her decision.![]()

So I actually do think Ks are quite smart buys at that smaller size.
Sorry for the typo! Don't get your hopes up waiting for a 9ct SMTB thread!![]()

Show me / Tell me why you love your K diamond and what has worked for it setting wise to give it the opportunity to shine?
Pretty please!

What size are you getting? The larger the diamond, the more likely you are to notice the color. Regardless, I think that there are plenty of beautiful K's and unless you're placing it right next to a J or higher colored diamond, you may not notice the color difference. The "mind clean" issue is another thing completely though. If you're not comfortable knowing that it's a K, don't do it.
