Colored center stone rings with a matching band?

Hello!
A few months ago I bought this ruby ring from Ebay. I was thinking about buying a matching ruby/diamond eternity band to go with it.
I have a few opinion questions for everyone.. I don't know whether to buy a band in yellow gold or in platinum because even though most of the ring is in platinum the prongs of the ruby are yellow gold. Also.. I don't know if a matching ruby/diamond alternating stone ring is a nice look or a too busy look. I wonder if an all diamond (small round prong set) band is better. I have a prong set diamond band but it's too big to go with the ring.. it overpowers it. I would have to get a different one that is daintier.
Does anyone have any pics of a colored center stone ring with alternating diamond/colored stone matching thin band? And.. opinions on whether white or yellow metal is the band is a better look?
Thanks! :wavey:
The first pic is of my ring..
The second pic is of a ring that I am thinking about buying.. I like a matched look but don't want it to look too busy.

I think that would be a lovely set!

When I first read your post I was thinking all diamond band...and then I scrolled down and saw the band you're thinking of and I changed my mind lol. I think it would look lovely with your ring and make a really pretty set. I like that the stones in the band are on the small side, and will complement your ring and not compete with it.

I like the band alot, but I would do it in platinum. Yes - the ruby prongs are yellow, but your diamond prongs are white.

Also - sorry I don't know how to attach this, but look at page 9 on Tiffany website under engagement rings. Click on the sapphire 3-stone (I know it's a diamond center/colored sided, but it gives you an idea) - you can choose the diamond/sapphire wedding band and it shows them together. I think it looks very nice!

This is why I love  PS! Thanks so much for your inputs Dee, June and Motown. :wavey:
I actually would prefer if the band was in platinum and not yellow gold but I really want to get a discounted Tiffany piece from Ebay and it seems like most ruby Tiffany items were set in yellow gold. There is one Tiffany ruby/diamond eternity band on Ebay that is set in platinum but it a lot more $$ than the one in 18 yellow gold AND it's a size 9. I already have to get the yellow gold one sized down from a 5.5 to a 4.5 which might be doable but I don't know about a 9 to a 4.5. I also don't like the fact that it's channel set and not prong set. I would rather it "match" better.
Here is a pic of the platinum one.
Motown.. your pic does help.. thanks! I rather like the look and don't think it's crazy busy. I also found page 9 on the Tiffany website and that is a GREAT pic to "study." :appl:
I tried to pair it with a Shlumberger Tiffany ring that I already own but I think that's too busy and it over powers the 3 stone ruby ring.
Pic of that below as well.

Motown.. I like your set better than the "page 9" combo.. nicer proportions. This one can be seen from space.. not in a good way!

well, the prong set one does look nicer with it, and I don't hink it's reasonable to size that other one down that much! YOu could rhodium plate the YG one, if you really want white metal

Thanks again MM.. you were super helpful! :wavey:

Your ring is very pretty and I think a ruby / diamond band would go great with it. I think it would look better in platinum than YG. But as Motownmama mentioned if you get the YG ring it can be plated.

A) I think the ring you are thinking of would be a GORGEOUS match!

B) While I really love the channel-set band of square-cut stones ... there's no way to size down from a 9 to a 4.5, not unless you're planning to reset entirely. I know there was one PSr who managed to convince Tiffany's to do that with an estate band, but that was before their we-don't-authenticate-regime-of-austerity, so I wouldn't want to be trying it now.

C) I don't think the Schlumberger band overwhelms it at all! I DO think it might need a spacer so they don't compete for the same finger real-estate, though. Do you have a plain YG band you could try between them?

D) I continue to passionately love that ring.

and,

E) I actually do have a colored center stone with matching band, which I just posted in a different thread, but which I feel compelled to add here, because ... completist. As you can tell, I love alternating shapes and colors!

You know, I was prepared not to like these sets because sometimes I don't like colored stones when they are too matchy matchy, but these are lovely! Smaller is my preference for your ruby RRM, so that it can be the star. Circe, I think your set is stunning. I'm afraid to say that covet has now entered my daily vocabulary and is not leaving... :wink2:

Thanks Marcy! I agree that plating is always an option. :wavey:
Minous.. I think I like smaller better too.
Circe.. just loving the pics of your set!!! So interesting how all the stone are different cuts but it all works so well together.
Fabu!! :appl:

Hello again! :wavey:
It's been a few weeks and I finally decided that the yellow gold Tiffany band from Ebay is a good match for my ruby ring.
It just came this morning and it's PERFECT!! Sooo happy with it!! The yellow gold in the eternity band picks up the yellow gold in the prongs beautifully and all the rubies are just about the same color. The proportions are great too. I also thought I would have to get it sized from a 5 3/4 to a 4 1/2 but it seems to lay nicely with the other ring and is secure on my finger because the three stone ring keeps it on. I won't rule out sizing it in the future but for now it's fine the way it is. :appl:
Thanks for sharing!!!

Yes!! :appl: :appl: :appl: It's perfect! Good choice and it does indeed seem well protected by the three stone. I love it!

pretty! :appl:

Thanks Enerchi!! :wavey: Yup.. that ring is going nowhere because of the band on top. I'm going to fiddle around with a few thin plain bands in white and yellow gold and see if it adds or detracts from the whole look.
Thanks too Motownmama!! :D

a skinny WG /plat spacer in between? Bring out the white metal in the 3 stone and the white of the diamonds? Just a though :))

You are wise young girl!!:-) I will try that and report back asap!

OK.. here are some variations. After all is said and done I think I like it without any extra bands. :o This might actually be a case of less is more.. not my usual mantra though!

Well-- all your bling is AWESOME - lets just get the obvious out of the way first!! :D  :appl:

But I think I have to agree, I prefer it just the 2 rings: band and 3 stone.

Mind you --- if you were going to be mailing your SUPER BFF a trinket or two, I know your SUPER BFF would love that lovely diamond eternity in pic 151... just sayin'! ;)) (as the self identified SUPER BFF, of course!! hahahaha!!)

Enerchi! You are 100% right on both points!
1. The rings do look better just paired with each other..
2. You ARE my super BFF!!!! :wavey:

^^^^^^

ya, I knew it... 8-) :wink2:

WOW!!

The set looks great!! I would actually put a skinny diamond band between the two, but I like the stacked look. Congratulations on a great find!

Thanks Athena and LLJ! :wavey:

I TOTALLY LOVE the three stone ruby ring with the matching band          OMG! I can't stop looking at it :appl: :appl: :appl: It's an amazing set :cheeky: I really, REALLY, want such a set now... :Up_to_something:

Thanks Natylad!! Soo sweet of you! :D

While I do love the idea of a matching band, I had a horrible time trying to match mine. Everything looked so busy, until I paired it with a plain diamond band. I think I had an issue with the trilliants in my ring, though.

Here's what I ended up with, and have been very happy with it.

But do what makes you happy! I just tend to have more simple tastes.
