I am considering upgrading from an E 1.54 Radiant to a 2 + fancy yellow diamond. I have looked at a few stones and they looked good I think. From what I have read, the diamonds are cut to hold the color. So, I take that to mean that it is even harder to find a well cut fancy yellow than a colorless radiant (which is already super hard.) My current stone has alot of fire and brilliance.

I am worried that in gaining the beautiful sunny yellow I really love, I will have less of a light show from the diamond. Can you have great color and great brilliance? Or are the odds just too low of finding both?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I have only seen a few yellow diamonds in real life, all but one of them at Diamonds by Lauren.

I saw a lot of life and fire in these stones, some incredible beauty. I don''t think you''ll be sacrificing brilliance, and while they are cut to hold the colour, a skilled cutter will still turn out a stone that performs well.

Good luck finding your upgrade - exciting project!

There''s a very good chance to have good color and brilliance in a color diamond. You may sacrifice some brilliance, but not all of it.

If you''re used to exceptionally cut, high colour white diamonds you WILL notice a difference. There''s no getting away from it. HOWEVER, yellow diamonds do sparkle and perform nicely but in a different way. For example, they won''t look like a disco ball like a white diamond might but they will radiate all different colours but in a more subtle way.

One other thing is that some yellows perform differently from others and it depends on the intensity of the colour. One of my yellows is fairly pale but it has the best "glitter" of all of them! What it lacks in colour, it makes up for in performance!

If you absolutely adore the colour of yellow diamonds then I think you''ll find that the colour will be the thing that you "see" and you won''t necessarily worry about anything else. Have you thought about teaming a gorgeous yellow central stone with white diamonds on either side? That way you''ll get the best of both worlds!

Thank you all for your replies. I feel better about it now! I am really excited about the upgrade, but have my moments of doubt since this white diamond is the only one I''ve ever had. Its what I''m used to. Adding to the confusion was looking at the loose diamonds and really not knowing how to judge them.

But I have been charmed by the cheery bright color of yellow diamonds, and so has my husband. The first one I saw about a month ago was all it took!
I am a color person in general, and now I want all of the diamond rainbow of colors!

Although I am sure that will never happen!
