Coloured stone engagement ring - budget approx $2500

Hi sapphiresal I'm in Sydney, I'm open to any jewller and Newcastle isn't too far ::)

I have fallen in love with a particular ring so if that falls though having more options would be great

Would you be able to include any photos of your stone/ring? I wasn't able to find any, it would be much appreciated

emmy, I'm in Newcastle (2 hours north of Sydney). If you are anywhere nearby, I could give you my jeweller's details?

also, I did order some stones (sapphires) from Dana at mastercut gems without any problem, and I was also having discussions with Blaze at blazengems, who also didn't have any problem shipping stones to me.

Okay emmy_em, since you've had a chance to look around a bit, it might be a good idea to provide a recap of what you're looking for. I say this because it appears that you've narrowed down your search considerably. From what you've said, it seems that you are looking for a blue sapphire in a halo setting. You mentioned that you are looking for a rounded stone - does that mean you want it to be round, or would an oval or cushion be okay (you have linked to several cushion blue sapphires you like)? Also, it might be a good idea if you were to think about how big you want the stone and ring coverage to be on your finger, in order to get an idea of the dimensions of the stone you seek. You are moving in the right direction - I really think its smart to see what you can find in Australia so as to avoid the international mailing/taxes complications if you possibly can.

I had a lovely phonecall with Mike from Joe Escobar Diamonds today, looks like we our on our way to having my dream ring!!

Mike was incredibly kind and accommodating during the call (while talking to a slightly nervous Aussie)

I was very lucky to convince my fiancé to increase my budget a touch more which doesn't hurt :D

Will post when we have some pictures!

Thanks everyone for your help, pricescope is a truly fantastic resource :appl:

Hi emmy,

Not sure how you are going on your search, but I only just saw your reply and thought I would pop this in anyway. My rings are on the Colored Stone E-rings topic page 71 (top and bottom) here:

The stones in my rhr were from Dana at Mastercut Gems, and my engagement stone was sourced by my jeweller, Paul Carruthers Manufacturing Jeweller http://www.pcmj.com.au/. They were lovely to work with, and had no issue getting in quite a few stones for me to look at, even though the stone I wanted was so unusual here in Aus (pale greenish-blue oval or cushion sapphire 2ct+).

Also, the design for my ring was inspired by a ring I saw in Sydney at Rox in the Strand Arcade, http://www.rox.com.au/ Their stuff is beautiful but quite expensive, and I just couldn't stand the idea of that much money sitting on my finger... I'm getting more amenable to it now, tho :naughty:

Hope the search is going well.

Hi Emmy,

I'm in Brissie but can definitely recommend http://www.coolamonsapphires.com/ call Jim or Jenny and chat to them about sapphires. They are miles cheaper than retail and have tonnes of stock (they literally own the mine). Very helpful and I've seen some of their untreated blues myself  . Just let her know what you are looking for and your budget. :wavey:

As to settings - I agree Australia is super expensive to get work done, although I had a wonderful experience with http://www.mckims.com.au/jewellerydesigns/ - he worked with my budget $1500 and the quality was perfect.
Suggest you focus on the perfect stone and the setting later - maybe a Daniel M setting from Etsy? I think $3K is a reasonable budget - you should be able to get what you want with a bit of hunting about...

Best of luck!
