Comments on 2 sapphire options for "push present"

My wife and I are expecting our first child in August :P !!!! I want to get her a cushion cut sapphire ring, which would be a combined gift for a push present, birthday gift, and makeup for the baby moon I have to cancel due to work. I am fairly new to colored gems, but I have read many a thread on this board as well as TL's introduction guide. Budget is a maximum of $3k on the sapphire itself, although I would prefer to spend $2K. I'm focused on the two sapphires below (due to work schedule I likely will not have an opportunity to see in person before purchase). They are both just over 2 carats. The first is untreated and stated as clean, but is that and inclusion in the table? The second is heated, which I was trying to avoid, but cheaper than the first. Any thoughts or comments on these sapphires, particularly color? I'm leaning one way but would love any impressions people have. Also, I intend to set the Sapphire in a halo of smaller round cut diamonds.

Congrats on the baby! I've actually considered purchasing the unheated stone that you referenced recently. I love how saturated the blue color is that is showing on the left side of the stone. There is some sort of color issue with it though. I emailed Gemfix about it and they confirmed that there is a streak down the center, but we didn't have a lengthy discussion about it. They offer a 7 day review period, so you can get the stone, see it in real life, and return it if you don't like it. Or, have them send you both and let your wife choose!

Heated stones are not necessarily bad, so long as they are disclosed and priced accordingly. Plus, the vast majority of people are not PSers, and thus they really just want to get a good deal on a pretty stone. If your wife could care less about heated/unheated, you will certainly have many more choices that fit your budget. Whatever you choose, I recommend making the purchase contingent on a favorable lab report from AGL (if it is not already included).

what do you think could cause that streak? The cut?

Its called color zoning, which is just a natural occurrence when the stone grows.

I see two types of "streaking", actually. A bit of colour zoning and an even smaller bit of bow-tie type extinction.

So, Chrono, is that a sapphire you would pass on? I am so torn/frustrated by this search for the right sapphire...

It depends on the time constraint I am under. How pressed are you for time? If very interested, I would "order" the stone to view it in person within the review period before making the final call. Perhaps it might look better or worse than the picture under various lighting conditions and that will sway me one way or the other.

 I don't recall writing an introduction guide to sapphires.

Perhaps it's Chrono's corundum treatment guide you're speaking of.
