Hey guys, it's been quite a while since I've been on with any regularity so I'm colored stone rusty. What are some stones that can generally be counted on to be untreated? Am I remembering correctly that spinel is one of them?

Thanks!

Spinel, many garnets, chrysoberyl, sphene. The big ones to avoid without benefit of lab reports (unless you don't mind invasive treatment) are corundum and emerald. Others, like tourmaline, topaz and zircon are typically heat treated and sometimes irradiated as well. HTH

ETA: I'm sure I'm overlooking a bunch - I just picked off the easy ones!

Thank you! I thought both spinel and garnet were on the list.

I'm beginning the search for a small band to request DH buy for our 5 year anniversary this year. Probably won't be getting diamonds or sapphires due to small budget, but I didn't want to rule out some other pretties. I'm fussy about treatments, though, so I wanted a good starting place.

So know that some garnets like demantoid (Russian at least) can be heat treated.
