There was a ring that I liked that was made by a certain designer and this jeweler did not carry that design, so he is making me the same ring for 700 cheaper. Listen, I know that does not sound good either. At first I really felt like I could trust this jeweler. The store that had the ring I wanted was selling their center diamonds for a lot more and the customer service was awful. I wish I could start over...this has been a very bad experience for me.

A lot of the things you are writing cause me a lot of concern.,
Speaking generally: Consumers should never feel pressured to buy because someone else is waiting in line.
If a seller is claiming to sell at their cost, I always look at that with skepticism.

When I'm spending $5000, I want to be able to ask as many questions as I need to feel comfortable- and if a seller makes me feel like I'm being a pain in the butt, I head for the door.

Speaking as a seller: Sometimes people have a lot of questions- and some might easily be looked at as an insult.
( like when someone offers $2000 for a $5000 item, for example) In such cases it's my job to be patient.
If someone is asking many questions, I feel it's my responsibility to answer them to the satisfaction.
If I don't , I expect them to walk.

Bottom line: you're not doing anything wrong- on the contrary, you're a prospective buyer and should be treated with respect.

I honestly wish I could walk away, but like I said before I have put down 2,000 and my receipt says Final Sale. I don't know how I got myself in to this mess.

Could you have him just make the ring for say the $2000 you put down? Then you could go and find your diamond elsewhere.

Hmmmm-
Again, I can only speak in generalities....
In some cases consumers might be able to get help from the credit card company.
In any event, you might separate the purchase of diamond and ring- have you seen the ring yet?

The ring he made is 1,600 plus tax so close to 1750 with taxes. I guess I could tell him that we can do that and just lose out on the rest and buy my diamond somewhere else. Not sure, I'm going in later this evening. I don't even want to deal with this anymore, but let's see what happens.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have decided to let the jeweler know that I will only buy a certified diamond and have asked for him to send it off to GIA. He said that would take to long and he has someone else that is willing to pay more for it uncertified. He now has a GIA certified diamond 1.06 SI2 G color for 5,100. I am actually looking at it tomorrow. I would like to clarify that the cost to send it to GIA is 100, but the sending it off insured and getting it back comes closer to 200.00 Anyhow, thanks everyone for your help.

I call BS on this. Walk away. It is a sales pitch and someone else just had it thrown in their face a few days ago by another so-called reputable jeweler trying to sell an uncerted stone.

My plans today is to go look at this diamond that the jeweler said he has coming in from another city (GIA certified, G color, SI2, and 1.06, and excellant cut. I do believe the jeweler is starting to lose his patience with me. Not sure if I let you guys know, but after the whole uncertified situation he called me back the next day and said that we had SI2, H color, GIA certified, and very good cuts for 5,000. I don't know how this happened that when we first decided on a SI2, E color, GIA certified, and with a very good cut for 5,000 we jumped all the way to an H color for the same price. According to the jeweler he said he got the E color diamond for a good price, so he was passing that good deal on to us. Why do I feel he is losing his patience with me? Well he called me about the G color SI2 diamond, and I said I would be willing to look at it. The jeweler responded with, well I have to pay overnight shipping cost and have to wire him money because I guess someone else burned this jeweler before. He made me feel bad, but I responded to him if it's too much of inconvenience then don't have the diamond come in. He then said that he would have it come in and I reponded that I can't commit to a diamond that I have never seen. He also said that the jeweler that has the diamond is wanting to sell it for 5,300, but has agreed to sell it for 5,100. Question to everyone: If the jeweler I am dealing with is paying 5,100 for the diamond and selling it to me for the same price...why would he even go through all the trouble if he is not making any money on it?????????????????????

I would walk away if I could because I don't think this process should be this stressful. I know that I am a tough customer to please, but I just want to make sure that I am getting a fair price. This jeweler has made my ring from scratch and I have put down 2,000 out of the 7,200. My receipt does say final, so I guess I'm out of luck. I would really like to appreciate all of you that are taking the time to respond to my post.

Do all of you think that if I go in today and see the diamond that is GIA certified, would it be insulting of my part to ask for the GIA report number?????

This is also all sales BS. Many jeweler pull the old "I got a great deal on this" and then give an unappealing comparable to make the first stone seem more appealing. Almost everything you have written about what you are being told by this jeweler are red flags. I urge you to walk and try again elsewhere.

No, I'm going to see the finished ring today.

Then take the finished ring and buy the diamond elsewhere. No jewler should make a ring prior to having the diamond in hand, anyways, that is really odd.

Well, check out the new stone he brings in. We'll see if its decent. It may be easier to walk away with just the setting.

Here is an H/SI1 that may fit your bill if you have to go that way. This is a well cut stone plus it has a 100% tradeup
policy (for those future upgrades)! You would have to ask them for the hearts image. It does have stone fluor.
Shouldn't be an issue but would need to ask BGD to make sure (they are very picky about their stones).

I'm just trying to give you some hope that not all is lost .
