Confused about OEC’s and those cut to resemble OEC’s...

Let me see if I got this straight.

GOG sells their branded “Vintage August Rounds”.
ERD sells their OEC’s as “European Brilliant”.

Neither of them sell vintage OEC stones correct?

So what I’m getting at is that there are vintage stones and stones cut with modern technology to look vintage (like the ones GOG and ERD sell).

Trying to educate myself and DH. ;))

Good Old Gold sells two old-style cut stones: August Vintage Rounds (or AVRs) and August Vintage Cushions (AVCs). There are other vendors that sell newly-cut older styles, ERD may be one, I think Victor Canera as well. Someone else can chime in with other vendors, but yes: they are newly cut to look like antique stones.

Good Old Gold ALSO sells actual Old European Cuts. If you use their search function, you can either look at all AVRs or all OECs, or you can search all round cuts and get a mix. Some people really prefer the charm of an actual antique, and finding the diamond that speaks to them, and the thrill of the hunt when it comes to old cuts. Others prefer the precision and performance of the newly cut antique-style stones. I think both are lovely, but you'll have to decide for yourself. I believe Good Old Gold has videos comparing actual antiques with their August Vintage line.

Edited to add: what may be confusing is that I believe AGS does label both old and newly cut stones with the "Old European Cut" moniker. EGL typically is the lab that grades genuine antiques, though you will find some with GIA certificates or dual certificates.

Thanks for the replies!

I don't want to engage the vendors just yet, and I'm going to see an antique OEC later this week. I doubt I will be able to see any modern cut OEC's but will look for the GOG comparison video - that might help too!
