Confused about pricing and "D" color for earrings

Hello again.

I'm wondering why so many folks prefer G/H color for studs? I just ordered stones with D color, and the cut and clarity are awesome, or so it seems on the certificate. My question is, why were they less expensive than similar sized stones with G/H color, and not as nice of a cut? Is there something I am missing here? FWIW, the stones are .49 each, so .98 total carat. Paid around 400 for the pair.

I'm just confused. The IGI report numbers are LG652462469 and LG650478618.

I probably should have never gotten this obsessed with this jewelry project b/c now I feel like a know too much and yet too little!! Anyone know that feeling?

Thanks for any insights you might be able to share.

Are you comparing the price quoted by your jeweler for the D's vs the online prices for G/H's? Are you comparing prices of D's and G/H's from the same vendor?

Also you wrote "not as nice of a cut."Ideal cut comes with a pricetag - no matter the color.

All of that info will help. It's tough to get a lab J/K, for sure, but that's a different story. Hope some of that helps!

I was comparing the diamonds I bought online to other diamonds for sale at the same online store. I then spoke with someone at that store who said that even though it's all one store, they get the stones from all different vendors. So maybe that's the difference. She said I just got a particularly good deal! I hope so.

Also: I meant that the diamonds I ordered seem fantastic! They are both hearts/arrows, D, VVS2-- They should be great. My confusion is why they were so affordable compared to diamonds that don't seem to be quite as "nice" in terms of Cut, Clarity, Color. I guess it must come down to the vendor or maybe beginner's luck?

Where did you order?

Would anybody be willing to check out these IGI certificates just to make sure that they are nice stones for earrings? Until a couple weeks ago I literally never thought about diamonds so I am beginning to be paranoid about my own ability to choose.

I'd be so grateful if anybody who knows more than me – which is probably pretty much everybody here – could let me know if I have made a mistake. I can still return.

Can you post photos of the certs?

emmiesweetie I think you can absolutely get both better crystal quality and pay a little less.
Not all of these diamonds will have truly great material quality, proportions, or high optical performance, but you may even find some of them listed at the seller you purchased from and may be able to get a swap done and get price matching.

Also: before I make another mistake, can anyone help me vet diamonds here? I'd rather know before placing the order...

I am driving myself a little crazy here. I thought I had good ones, and now I have a setback, so I'm feeling a bit weary and overwhelmed again.

Once I put the HPHT filter on the Ritani loose diamonds then I don't get any IGI hearts/arrows. I take the HPHT filter off, and I get CVD hearts/arrows.

Yes, we absolutely will help you assess/vet diamonds!
Search LooseGrownDiamond for HPHT and H&A, go through and make a list of candidates, then search those grading report numbers (include the leading LG if applicable) at Ritani to see if they also have them listed...then ask for a price match once you find two that are listed.

Thanks so much, DejaWiz.

Have you bought from loose grown diamonds, and have you been satisfied with that experience?

here are 2 from ritani i am considering: LG628427367 + LG630464548

Are you OK with bumping up to 5.70-5.75mm (around the 0.71-0.74 carat mark) each diamond?
I found a bunch of awesome options!

I may be OK with that, but these are for everyday wear and I am pretty low-key. I've never had diamond studs, so I am not sure. Hm. I need to be under $400 total.

BTW, one of the diamonds was listed on both sites and Ritani said they would price match.

I think you'll be fine...my wife wears 0.75 each ear almost daily.
Alrighty, so I've adjusted the search for $200 max each diamond and they'll be a little smaller, but you can still get each one up around 5.60-5.65mm (around 0.66-0.68 carat each).
Let me know when you're ready and I'll give you the list.

I'm ready! I'll check again in about 15 minutes.

If Ritani doesn't have so much as two of these listed, then scoop up your favorite pair at LooseGrownDiamond and cancel your order at Ritani.
Any combination of two would make a great match since they are all so close in actual outer diameter...indistinguishable physical sizes to probably 99.9% of all humans on the planet (not really exaggerating, either!)

Copy and paste this list into a text document, let me know when you're done ASAP, then I'll delete all the links so that you have a better chance of getting two of them ordered and secured before lurkers snipe them all.

[Edit]
Links deleted

emmiesweetie I edited my post to show the grading report numbers above each link so that it'll make copy and paste an easier task for you...should have done that from the start, so I'm sorry about that.

I'll delete the list in about 20 mins since we only get 45 mins to edit a post before we have to get a moderator/admin involved.

I found one on ritani! I'm putting it in my cart.

There's another one on that site that I'd like your thoughts on, DejaWiz LG628446868

It's got proportions, angles, and cut precision just fine for an earring. It is a bit already at 5.7mm, so make sure you pair it with another diamond at most 0.05mm, maybe 0.07mm max difference in diameter.
Have Ritani price match:

Awesome! It matches one from your list. Now I can get both at ritani and ask for price matching.☺️ i'm off to about 1 million meetings tonight but hopefully I can proceed tomorrow. Again, I really appreciate your help.

You're very welcome!

Update: I ordered them and I believe I will be happy that I did. I'm glad they were still available!

Thanks again, DejaWiz . Now onto deciding on which type of stud setting!

The stones just arrived, and WOW. They are ridiculously pretty! Just gorgeous! I'm almost afraid of them, lol. I'm not sure if someone like me should have them. So different from the Old European Cut in my engagement ring! And, I love that stone too!

Socks officially knocked off. :kiss2:

Yeah, we're gonna need videos of these new diamonds of yours.

I will try, but my phone is not as nice as my diamonds! :lol-2:

We all are familiar with the effect of most cameras not doing justice to well cut and proportioned diamonds and end up taking 500 videos to find 1 that's moderately acceptable! LOL
