Considering a bigger diamond

So I bought a 1.545 ACA WF diamond and after some consideration and more searching, I am looking to returning it and purchasing an ACA in the 2.2ish carat range...

My only concern is that my G/F is a size 4 and I am afraid that the diamond will look like a freak of nature on her hand. I''m sure their are a few people who were, or are in a similar situation and I was wondering what you thought of this (I plan on setting it on a 3/4 Diamond for an Eternity with the matching band). Pictures would be nice too

Well the first stone I purchased was absolutely beautiful...1.545 ACA G VS1. I realized however that when I extended the upper range of the Cut search on pricescope to above two, I can sacrifice on the color and clarity a bit (and still be comfortable) and bring it up to 2.2ish ACA I VS2...

My girlfried told me the bigger the better, but I think she''s comparing sizes to her friends that have <1 ct diamonds on..so relativey speaking, 1.5 is "big" compared to their 1ct, but I am curious to see if maybe 2.2ish is "too big" (I know this is very subjective, but maybe there is a consensus out there, who knows).

Ok I see. Its difficult to answer your question whether it would be ' too' big as this very much depends on the wearer. As it sounds as if your GF knows you are ring shopping, would it be possible to broach the subject to see what she would prefer? Yes if her friends are wearing
I know she is so going to appreciate all the effort you have put into this whatever you decide!

i think most women --but certainly not all--think a diamond can never be too big. however-factors include--can she wear it to work, would it be inappropriately large for work or daily life, etc etc. i dont think so but if she is a nurse perhaps or works in an inner city public school ...........just random thoughts

will a >2 carat diamond be too big on your gf's size 4 finger? i guess it depends on where you live. i live in vancouver, and rarely see anything over 1 carat and our city's definitely got some $ as a whole.

a >2 carat diamond will definitely be a constant focal point for peeps around her. in my opinion, except for on ps, >2 carat is MASSIVE! i wouldn't be comfortable wearing something that huge. i can only imagine it getting it in the way of everything i do.

i think a 1.5 carat is ginormous to begin with. if you need to drop down in quality to go up, i say don't bother. again, though, i'm not your gf and if it's her goal to get the biggest diamond on her tiny little finger, then i suppose you know what you need to do!

welll...diamonds do shrink.

Yeah, talk to her before making a decision. A lot comes down to comfort range. . .I'm a 4.75 and a 2 ct looks ridiculous on me (but then again, I'm a SAHM and wearing a 2 ct to the grocery store seems a bit over-the-top).

Absolutely depends on where you live. 2 ct. is very run-of-the-mill around these parts (Los Angeles).

Hello... I have a size 4 finger and have a 1.7 ct pear shape diamond. People always think I have a 2ct or more. My co-workers actually think I''m insane to want to upgrade in size...it also depenmds what shape the diamond is too...fancy shapes and rounds face up larger -esp. when they''re Excellent-Very good.

My friend who just got engaged has a 1.5 round diamond and her finger size is a 6 and it diamond looks big still...so i guess it jsut depends if your gf wants a big diamond then get her the 2.2 ct but if she could go either way and not care...then stick with the 1.5 ct. I personally would not go larger than I wanted to before because I dont want my ring to look like a costume ring...good luck on your choice but I tihnk your gf will love whatever you get her...the most important thing is that the both of u love each other regardless!!

I also live in an area where under 1 cts is the norm, I have a 1.2 ct and it is by far the largest diamond that I have ever seen someone wearing. And I live near Anitabee

I used to want a 2ct honker. But in reality I would feel uncomfortable with a diamond that at my stage in life. For more bling I will be getting a three-stone.

I say either ask her or propose with what you have and allow her the choice to upgrade later. I persoanlly would prefer the smaller G color to the larger I color.

I have a 2ct on size 3.75 finger. It doesn''t look too big to me but it''s princess cut which i''ve heard tend to look smaller than rounds, and I live in LA so that size is not uncommon anyway. I wouldn''t go any bigger though.

Talk to her about it! If you don''t want her to see "the diamond" take her to jewelry stores and try on the different sizes. Her preferences will show through in the first 5 minutes you''re there!!!!
I did this with my husband when we we started thinking about my upgrade. I realized that my "honey spot" was 1.5 carats....a 2.0 carat looked huge and silly on me (in my opinion). BUT....I live in a small, rural town where the norm is less than 1 carat. It all depends on your location...and her tastes.

In my defense....there''s not a jewelry store even close to where I live that carries a 5 carat!!!!!
