Considering green sapphire

I am resetting my 1.2 engagement ring and am leaning towards a three stone setting. I would buy another round diamond my size and a large cushion or emerald cut green sapphire to place in the center. Has anyone done this? Does anyone have recommended sources? I have a custom jeweler who can do it but not sure if I want to buy stones from him. Thanks in advance to all the informed pros out there!

Have you seen any green sapphires in person?

If you haven't, then they may disappoint. I have a very nice one and yet beside my tsavorite it looks murkey olive. They are very, very rarely 'green' in the sense of an emerald green.

I have a small one and it is very vivid teal green, sparkles like mad! Try searching Australian gem sites as we produce many (unheated) green sapphires, particularly the New England region. They will never resemble an emerald though!

I have a little one from Songea, Tanzania, cut by Uli at Osiris Gems. Songea sapphires are known for their unusual colors. Mine shifts from a deep forest green to a yellowish green depending on the lighting. Here it is:

Have never seen a green sapphire which resembles an emerald. I would choose a nice Tsavorite instead.
