Ok, this is a bit of a silly question, but here it goes anyway....

I am about to have a phone conversation with a jewellery designer, and realised that even when sending pictures over, I am not sure if I have all the different bits and pieces correctly identified. so is there a site, link that identifies the different parts of standard rings and has their names eg shank, gallery, claw prong, etc so that we are talking about the same thing.

For examample, the shank, is that the name of the whole band part of the e-ring, and so forth

I feel you D2B!!

I can''t help you, but I feel your pain. My first get together with PS''ers was like a trip to a foreign land. I had no clue what they were talking about. I muddled through my purchase, but I do wish we had a mock up like the one posted recently that detailed the diamond angles on a GIA cert. It told us what was what.

That is a huge hint and invite to the photoshopping PS''ers!!

So is the band the same as the shank then? I''ve always used the two interchangably, but am not too sure, LOL.

Thank you so much for posting this.

Referring to the pic that LT posted, what is bridge of metal that connects to the shoulder (to the right and left of the under gallery) called?

shoulder, or cathedral.
I thought the shoulder was referred to as the area that connects the basket/head to the shank/band (area left and right below the head). No?

Area I am confused about is under the head/basket (right below the under gallery). The bridge of metal flowing from shoulder to shoulder or upper shank to upper shank, band to band.

sorry to hi-jack but one more question.

if there is space, what is the gap of space btwn the stone and the halo called? i thought it was referred to as "air line or air space" but i was told that is wrong. hmm....

space example here. hope halobeau13 doesn't mind the pic post.
