I''m planning on getting some of my jewelry pieces appraised for insurance purposes. I called a local independent appraiser and his rates are $125 for the first item and around $50-85 (depending on the item) for each additional piece. Does that sound about right? TIA!

Appraisals in Arizona go for around $75-100... so that sounds about right to me.

It might depend on where you live, I''d shop around and see if that sounds fair.

Sounds about right.

Could even be cheap if you have several "heavyweight" items.

If not, if they''re simple (gold chains and such), he might cut you a break on some of them.
