I hope you can advise.

My center diamond on my engagement ring "fell out" the other day. I was putting on a sweater and I felt my ring snag and did not realize the diamond fell out until my arm was through the sleeve. The prongs and diamond do not appear damaged.

I have contacted the original jeweler who set the diamond for us he is willing to reset the diamond. My question is, how much would something like this be? I have no ballpark figure at all.

Thank you all for your time.

Depending on where you are, it can be anywhere from $50 to $100.

It's going to depend on why it came out. Stones falling out is a symptom, not the underlying problem. There's almost certain to be some prong repairs and how much depends greatly on the job and what the problem is. Quotes are free. Ask when you show it to him. $50-$100 usually covers the setting job but, at least around here, you can easily spend another $20-40 each to rebuild the prongs. More if it's platinum. If there are other stones in the piece, there may also be concerns of the same problem with them.

Thank you very much for the quick replies! That answers everything for me.

Be sure to ask him to take a good look at the prongs and see if he can ascertain why. If a snag in a sweater was enough to dislodge the diamond without being hard enough to damage the sweater, I would be wanting to take a hard look at it.
