i am curious about the diamond jewelry from Costco. Honestly, I bought this tennis bracelet last month

https://m.costco.com/Round-Brillian...4kt-White-Gold-Bracelet.product.11235700.html

And I LOVED it! It sparkled like crazy! Then I took it to a local jeweler and he said I overpayed. He said he could make me a tennis bracelet double the carat and better quality diamonds, so I returned it. Then, I decided to buy a nice oval solitaire and custom make the halo pave setting with 2 matching wedding pave bands, so the tennis bracelet got put on hold. But I would like to know in general if diamonds from Costco are a good deal. Thoughts??

I will let the experts comment on the specifics of the diamond quality/price. But, I can say that a few years ago (pre-PS) my husband bought me a cluster pendant from Costco and it is stunning. As you mentioned the diamonds sparkle like crazy. Even now with some knowledge under my belt and a loop in hand, the seem to be very high color and clarity. The setting itself is pretty basic, but boy is it an eye-catcher and I receive many complements and more telling I notice people "checking it out" every time I wear it. At the time, he had shopped around to several local BM stores, even popped into Tiffany's and he said that it was a no brainer to chose the necklace from Costco, since similar pieces were 2-3x more at jewelry stores

Oh and let me tell you about the same jeweler that said I overpaid! I told him I wanted a solitaire and he kept on pushing this one stone on ME. I told him I want something bigger but each time he would tell me that is out of my budget. Then I went online to JA and BN and discovered he was wrong. I haven't been back since so that is why I am now dubious of him telling me that I overpaid for the tennis bracelet.

HI:

He can make you a 10 ctw bracelet with better quality stones for 5K?? That IS quite a claim. Tell him you'll take two!

cheers--Sharon

5 Carat total weight VS/I tennis bracelet for $5000.

I haven’t seen the piece and can’t speak to the value or that grading, but ‘double the carat weight and better quality’ strikes me as highly unlikely unless he's calling it a total fraud (like they aren't diamonds). Those are fighting words. Put it in writing and sign it.

I never paid close attention to the quality of the diamonds at Costco but never liked the workmanship of some of their jewelry. In my opinion, just the quality of the diamonds is not enough for me to like something.

The best deal about Costco diamonds is that you can buy them, take them to an appraiser and then decide if they are what you want!

I have quite a bit of diamond jewelry from Costco. I have never been disappointed in a single piece. My DH bought me a little heart ring there for Christmas and I get compliments on it every where I go, way more than my BGD 2.57 stone. I have their 5 stone earrings and another pair of earrings that are almost 2 carats. All the pieces are beautiful in my opinion and sparkle like mad. I love buying jewelry there because it is so easy. I can order or buy it at the store and return it just as easily if I am not happy with it. My five stone band also came from them, as well as about 5 or 6 necklaces. I have looped all the pieces I own and have not had a dark carbon spot in any of them.

As to the settings, they are obviously all cast but I have found them to be okay. They are not the kind of pieces you could have custom made but I am okay with that. I probably wouldn't have numbers of pieces custom made for the time and cost.

I love my Costco ‘Raindance’ style ring, I’ve louped the diamonds, and whilst I don’t claim to be an expert, they’re bright and lively.

are there pictures anywhere of your 5 stone?

When I go to Costco I am always amazed how much diamond jewelry they have on display. Some of it is $20K+. Their grading reports are from IGI and others, not AGS or GIA, at least the stuff that I have seen on their tags. Most PSers like AGS or GIA graded stones.

They also carry GIA

If you liked the Costco bracelet, go buy it again. The jeweller doesn't sound the most trustworthy person and of course he wants your business. I know this is a diamond forum (duh!) but if you love something, it doesn't have to be perfect by other people's standards. It's only baubles we're talking about here, go with your heart; if you love it, own it

Ours has GIA graded diamonds too.

Thank you for this! Actually that makes me feel better.:appl:

Wondering if it would ever be worth it to buy a solitaire from Costco and have the stone reset.

If I was going to get a solitaire for an e-ring, I probably wouldn't buy it at costco unless you could be sure of the specs. I love their diamonds but you can get a better cut stone elsewhere. If you are getting a round solitaire you can often look at the reports online before you choose it. The most important thing is the cut, not the cost. You have to find a balance of the two, I realize but get the best cut you can. I would buy a lot of other diamonds at Costco but the e-ring is the one thing I would be really careful of because I would want that to be the best. Do some research and carefully select.

Our Costco has little signs on the more expensive pieces that say the center stones are CZs for display only. I definitely would want to examine the actual thing before I bought but as luv2sparkle says returns are easy.

At our local stores the more expensive (> $10k?) rings come with both GIA and IGI other wise only IGI.

GIA at Costco, good to know, thanks

They’ll bring out the real thing before you purchase, just don’t keep them in the display case, you just have to ask,

Did you end up keeping the bracelet? I'm intrigued.

I personally hate when jewelers act like that. His statement seems like an exaggeration. Also, there’s a WAY to say something, that not as dismissive. I bought a ring from Walmart of all places and wanted my jeweler to lower the setting/diamonds. I was kinda embarrassed bc it was low quality, but he didn’t make me feel bad at all about it. I’m not talking about lying that it’s good quality - more like acknowledging that some ppl are satisfied with lower quality/price for a particular piece - just scratch an itch without breaking the bank, so to speak. And - we’ve bought tons of stuff from him too.

Also - there’re whole threads where ppl here show Costco purchases.

No I returned it but I am saving money for a 10 carat bracelet from IDJ. I like their diamond pieces (I have 3 so far) and the price is very reasonable

Oh wow. How do you private message people on here? I'd like to know more about your IDJ bracelets.
