Why does the phone number that is shown for BO''s home address the one listed for the PSL?

Falsifying information on the internet is not my area of interest or expertise: it is a HUGE topic. Maybe someone will weigh in on some of the ways such things can happen. To wonder if anomolous results of a simple Google search is indicative of some shadowy socialist connection is a bit silly in my book, but hey, whatever. Heck, if I put in my actual home address, half the time Google won''t even find my listing anymore, even though I''m listed in the phonebook. YOU do the math.

Oshin It's pretty easy to get whatever you want to the top of a search engine with a certain search term if you have the time and/or the money. A year or so ago you could type in "miserable failure" into the search engine and it would take you to Bush's website. Why? Because people would input the search term "miserable failure" and then end up clicking through to the white house website afterwards. So google's algorithm eventually starts to "think" that when people type
"miserable failure" what they REALLY want is GWB, and so then the top search that pops up ends up being GWB's White House website. Voila.

But it isn't hard to manipulate, so that is how these things happen.

I assume that''s in response to me. I was trying to be lighthearted, but I guess it fell short. Of course I was not trying to lump all of the supporters in one category. Perhaps I should have used the word "some" in front of "Obama supporters". I just thought that common sense would dictate that if you aren''t the "rubbing it in your face" type of person, I was not talking about you.

Hmmm...I'd say it was a landslide, actually! Obama got 365 electoral votes vs. McCain's 173. So he won by 192 electoral votes. (To contrast that, in 2004, Bush won 286 and Kerry won 252, for a difference of only 34 votes.) So yeah, that's crushing it in my book!

Not as good as Reagan crushing Carter, but since I wasn't born then I don't count that one as much!

And it's pretty hard for me to have compassion for someone who continues to post threads about Obama being a Socialist a month and a half after he won the election!

If they had posted a question on DIAMONDS then I bet no one would be as rude as you are being now. It is perfectly ok to have concerns or questions over your newly elected president... and just because they are posted here, it doesn''t mean that the person is pitching a fit over McCain losing or that they are CONVINCED that Obama is a socialist/terrorist/whatever. I know some of you gave nice answers but this is directed at the ones who did not.

With all due respect, you haven''t read these threads much have you? There really IS a lot of background here. This thread and its insinuations, and the responses, do not happen in a vacuum.

Well, it''s probably just because we''re mean, rotten people. OR, it could be that we find the post disingenuous, since the site she linked, that had this "information", had about 100+ reader responses below, some of them with extensive explanations of "how this could happen". If you really want information on how Google and other searches work, and what data they return, you don''t ask the question - in political threads, in the context of what appears to be a search for "socialist" connections of our President-Elect, without knowing what kind of responses you''re likely to get.
