Cracked diamond

Here I go again, this time the crack is real. I gave my DD my old studs when I got my moms. She recently gace them back to me, there have been some weird things going on in her neighborhood and she wanted me to take them back for now. I took them home for a cleaning and looked at one and there is a crack running right across the table. Not sure how deep the stone seems intact. My question is , if its not deep can it be polished out or is the stone a loss? Also Im stumped as to how it happened but Im guessing she dropped it

oh no! Can you take it to a jewelery store and have them look at it to verify it's cracked?

Ditto - are you completely, totally sure it's cracked? Maybe there's some hair threaded through the wirework somewhere that's reflecting strangely or something? (Yes, I know how that sounds!)

oh no!! Def not glue? nothing residual on it? did you loop and you can see the distinct crack? Are they insured by any chance? Oh, I hope its just a hair, as Yssie says....

Yup!! - cuz I know glue on diamonds... trust me on THATone!! (argh.... such a bad experience!! )

Elisateach! Any updates on the earrings?? I'm sorry they are damaged - so frustrating and I guess even diamonds, as hard as they are, are just as susceptible to a crack when hit the wrong way.

Hope they can be fixed... somehow!

Sorry i posted and dashed. DS broke his toe and I had a trip to the ER!

I'm trying to get a picture of the stone, that shows the crack. Gotta get my new camwea back from my DD on the way home from work and take some close ups! I have louped it and it looks like a crack to me and you can feel it. It does not go edge to edge its just a bit across the table. I was hoping if its not deep it can be polished out
It is a decent stone, 5.6 mm good color etc. Not certed, got them on 47th st about 20 years ago. They used to sparkle like crazy.

Enerchi... glue I know very well, remember my post about my stone back in October and I was hoping that was the case. I'm going to take it to a jeweler this weekend. It is not insured, so I guess I am SOL
I'm hoping the jeweler can give me good news.
