I was hooked with old cuts after i got my first Tranny 4-5 months ago; I have not been on the hunt since.

Today after my crown appointment w/ my dentist, i was in no mood to be productive at work so i have to do something to entertain myself. What is other better things to do then to look for diamond and jewelry, right?! ;)

I stumbled onto listing on craigslist for vintage old minor diamond. Seller does not have specs other than saying it's 1ct. I called and met up w/ the seller w/in 1 hr and 20mins from the time that i called.

I understand it's not the great stone; i wanted for a pendant perhaps milgrain bezel..... i can handle lower graded. I was only able to quickly measured the diameter and louped it and tested w/ diamond tested.

As for stone, it measures as 6.8mm and it's white compare to Tranny as O color. It has small cullet and no fluorescence and it has obvious inclusion w/ loupe. Does the stone look like OEC or Transitional?

As for the setting, the all heads damage and stone is loosely in setting, I was not able to determine the kt of metal.

Could someone please tell the era of this setting and setting type? Please help.

I think those were first introduced as a mass market type design around the late teens or 20's but they probably were made before that. 'New' designs are rarely new when you dig into it.
They were popular in the 30's and 40's.
I worked for a shop that made a bunch of them in the 70's. Fabricating 'vintage' designs was something of a market niche for them.
I've personally made them as recently as the 90's.
There are surely people who are making them now but I don't off hand know of anybody doing it (although I know several who COULD if they had a client who wanted it).

The stone looks like an oec to me. It's pretty included, if you buy it take it to a jeweler and see if they feel there are many structural issues. These can be a problem if you choose to bezel the stone but there's always a risk while setting it in prongs.

OEC to me.

It looks pretty dirty under the pavilion. can't judge the clarity until its clean. But the cut looks nice and it seems like an OEC to me.

Denverapraiser: thank you so much for your insight and education

heraanderson: thanks. I already purchased the stone.

Dreamer_D: thank you! I have went to jeweler to have it unmount and it's pretty dirty. After unmounted and bathe of warm water and soap, it looks a little better.

Here is side by side w/ the Tranny VS2 and o/p color.

My appraiser is out on vacation for 3 wks so i wasn't able to get specs.

The jeweler who unmounted, he measured w/ digital caliber of 6.5mm and weight of 1.14ct.

I have contacted BGD to have it set in Barbara Milgrain pendant. I don't know if it's necessary for me to get it appraises since i am going to make it in pendant.

Your tranny is mesmerizing! Really love the color of it-- and congrats on your new stone. She's a keeper!
