I recently had my diamond reset and the jeweler hid the point or culet into the setting so that you can't see a tip..... Does this sound right to everyone? I kinda liked it showing but he said this helps anchor the diamond into the setting. Just wondering everyone's thoughts?

That personally would be unacceptable to me and I would require it to be redone to my expectation and specifications. I require that the culet be clearly visible from the side, and the stone set high so that it's possible. If the stone is set properly and "seated" in the prongs correctly, it will be "anchored into the setting" perfectly.

Do you have a picture of the setting? I'm curious to see if it is a standard 4 prong or if there's more going on which might necessitate having the culet sit into the base. I did so for one of my stones because it was very deep and I don't want it to sit miles high above my finger where it'll get banged around. It also has only two tab prongs so the seat helps anchor it better.

Both of my stones are set deep enough into the rings so that the culet is not visible. I prefer it that way, as I am in and out of gloves all day - if I set a 4.5 carat diamond high enough to see the culet, there's no way I'd be able to wear it to work.

If you want it higher, it shouldn't be a problem. I don't know why setting it lower would make it more stable. Either the setting is strong and secure on its own, or it is not.

I like to be able to get under the culet for super cleaning - that's me tho

My stone is set very low per my request. I cannot see the culet from the side profile but can easily clean through the bottom donut hole. I think it's personal preference but you should have it at the exact height you prefer. It should not matter to the jeweler unless he was using a setting with a head that didn't match the size of your stone.

Thank you. Just trying to figure out how to upload pictures from my ipad

Hoping I attached the picture!

The height of the ring as a whole is quite tall, in order to make the head itself taller, the jeweler would have to remake that so the bridge was less tall for the head to start lower on the finger, if that makes sense. The bridge is quite thick...That way the height is overall the same, but the head itself is taller to allow for more of the stone to be visible.
