Curated ear piercing?

Hey ho,

Got some new hoops today because the last pair broke. These are bespoke and so should last far longer. I'm very pleased with them. 14 kt matte gold.20250131_164406.jpg20250131_164257.jpg

Thanks for the thread @Begonia ! I've decided I finally need to book the appointment and go get some ear bling, and am doing the research of what I want, healing times etc. Did you start with an overall plan/look, or did you just add whatever your heart desired as you went? I've always loved the conch and the daith, but that's some thick cartilage!

Why did you end up letting the top two flats close up? I found a place that books "ear curation" appointments (I'm guessing multiple piercings) but am thinking it would be best to only pierce one ear at a time for sleeping, and probably no more than 2-3 at a time but I could be wrong.. I thought it shouldn't hurt too badly but am reading quite the opposite!

Any advice for someone at the beginning of the ear curation road you just travelled? Favorite places to shop (online) for these?

Hello @Mooshi :)

I started with the 3 flats that are matched but descending sizes. Then I went from there. I highly recommend having a general plan (lesson #1) to avoid having to retire piercings (which I did), altho my general plan evolved a lot!

The 2 flats were removed as they were an attempt at correcting a poorly placed piercing (piercer misunderstood). That brings me to lesson #2. V e r y clear communication especially where cartilage piercings are concerned LOL. Even my very clear communication was misunderstood! Also, I'm not a fan of matchy matchy, so triples on each flat irritated me LOL.

My piercing studio maxes at 3 piercings for at least 6 months and yes, I only did one ear at a time. The triplets (black opals) took over 2 years to heal properly for me, but I was also 53 when I got them done. I had several infections and irritations during that time. I'm not gonna lie, the pain was significant as I had them all done the same day.

There is also a piercing high afterward which I was not aware of. It hurts like a bugger but there's a feeling of elation afterward - if you aren't careful, it can become addictive.

I'm in a smaller city in Canada and most of my earrings/ends had to be ordered. Some are BVLA (costly) and others are Alchemy Adornment. There's a few I can't remember who did them (the tsavorite garnet/diamond end). I've slowed down and don't buy much anymore as it's costly to change out the whole look. The odd addition here and there but nothing big. Well, the hoops were a big addition but those holes are best for hoops as the labret ends overlap which brings me to lesson #3...

Think about your first piercing placement (where my hoops are) and what kind of options you want to have there. I've got my mom's diamond studs but hard to put there as the backs crowd each other. They look weird in other holes.

So fun to talk about this!! Thanks for asking :)
