Hello, I recently posted the specs of a cushion diamond and got some great feedback on whether the price was good or not. But, the more I''m reading on this forum about cushions, I''m worried that I''m losing a lot of carat weight in the depth and Extremely thick girdle. It''s down to the wire now, my boyfriend and I looked at this stone last week and will need to say yea or nea to this particular stone. Where I need some help is to whether we should wait again for another one to come around or not. We''ve chosen our jeweler and feel very comfortable with him. I am in love with the cushion cut, but keep stuggling with the fact that they don''t show their size as much as a round or oval. Since cushions are far and few between, we''ve only seen a couple others that just weren''t right, but the one listed below is the closest to what I''m looking for in the price range. My big question to the cushion experts or just knowledgeable is do you think that this stone is a good choice for me when it''s important for it to show as big as possible but still have a great brilliance? I have seen the stone and I think it looks great, but there''s no other cushions at the jeweler to compare it to side by side. Please help!!
Here are the specs:
GIA certified 12/29/05
2.05 cushion
Color G
Clarity SI1
Polish Very Good
Symetry Good
Culet none
Flouresence None
Measurements 7.83x7.07x5.07
Crown (?) 58%
Depth 71.1%
Quoted $14,800

i remember your thread and agree, it is a tad deep but you are right that good cushions are few. If you saw it and your eyes loved it, get it. It''s said here often, you''re buying the diamond not the paper. that said, it could very well be a "mind clean" issue for you. if you think it will always bother you knowing the girdle is a little on the thick side or the stone is a little, pass on the stone and wait until you find exactly what you want that has the numbers you feel comfortable with.

Most cushions look amazing at around the 70''s depth...
If you have a picture it will help a lot, since cushions are cut in loads of different faceting arangements...
The spread seems just fine..., (dont compare it to a round, and dont forget you have spread in the corners which rounds dont have!!!)
I take it that your "crown" in a mistake for table*** (in that case it a good size table.)
As far as price..., i usually try not to comment..., but it seems to be more than ok*** (if the grade is right..., and the stone is a pretty one...)
The numbers seem right, but you can be the best judge since youve seen it!

Like i said, a picture would help a lot...

Yes a pic would be great!! Many times we ask people in this kind of situation, what if the stone was sold?? How sad would you be?? I know that isn''t going to happen as the jeweler is holding it for you but imagine here for a minute.... Sometimes that helps. Cushions are tricky, but it sounds like a nice one. Good luck!!

Thanks for the input! I will try to get a picture tomorrow and post.
I really think that the stone looks great, but I just keep comparing it to one that I''ve seen in a retail store that''s also two carat and it looks bigger. BUT..of course that stone cost $39,000! So, I really need to get that one out of my head.
Is there a particular range of measurements that you should stay in to get the most surace weight, yet keep the shape to be really brilliant?...I don''t want to give up the sparkle just to have it look bigger.

Once again, the numbers can't tell you about light return of a stone. My cushion is 53.9% depth and 70% table, and I love my cushion! Let your eyes be the judge!

Thanks Lizz,
I''ve been told that if you go too shallow that it won''t have the brilliance, but obviously it varies so much in the cushion. Yours is almost opposite of the stone that I''m looking at and I lke how much bigger your table is. Do you happen to have a picture of yours? I''m always interested to see other cushions. It may make me want to hold out. ughhh, I hate this indecision!

Here''s my cushion.

That first one looked kind of grainy. Here''s another.

I agree that your eyes have to be the judge...but I have now bought two cushions from two different vendors. For a squarish cushion, I was told by both of them that a table in the 50''s and a depth in the 60''s would be some key numbers to look for. I''m not saying that those are numbers to live by, but now after owning both of these cushions and really checking out their performance (and after seeing cushions with tables in the 60''s) I have to say there is a difference. I had initially asked these vendors to check out some stones with ex/ex but tables in the 60''s, and both vendors recommended against it.

If you check out moremoremore''s cushion, I believe hers has specs close what what I mentioned (a 56% table and maybe a 64% depth, I believe). It''s gorgeous. Mine is 55% table and 64% depth. Both my cushion and moremoremore''s (plus the one I bought for my mom) has ex/ex for polish and symmetry. I am not sure how necessary that is, but I paid the premium because I loved the look of a symmetrical stone. Some may prefer one that is VG or G...that''s the beauty of cushions...you just find one that speaks to you.

Lizz,
My gosh, it is beautiful!! ...and it looks huge!! I want mine on a pave band, with out the halo. It''s all so confusing to an amateur. I''m just one of those people who hates to have buyers remorse...especially if I see one that looks bigger and prettier for the same price!
Thanks for sharing!

Travelinggal,
Thanks for your input and refering to look at MMM''s ring...it is georgeous!
I''m just curious about the symetry, do you think that if I require the stone to be very good or excellent, I''m going to get the correct dimensions for the mose impact? I have to say that when I set out to look for a diamond, I primarily thought about color and clarity, because I like a pretty white diamond, with a lot of brilliance.
From your e-mail, my table fits in to the specs that you are saying is good, but the depth is quite larger...is that a bad thing?
I''m going to try to get a picture of it and post it, I hope this will help.
