Hee hee, that made me giggle...

Anywho - I have a small dilemma... as some of you know, my dear fiance has chosen a 6.05ct brilliant cushion to go in the all pave setting I love. I don''t have the specs on the stone other than the cushion is 6.05 cts G color vs1 clarity. Sorry to all the number crunchers out there for the lack of dimensions!! Well, yesterday our jeweler called and has received a 5.01ct asscher. *pant pant, i love asschers* H color and vvs1 clarity. Should I swap the cushion for the asscher? I''m not sure the price difference but I was told it is no matter. The cushion was a squatty square shape, so it isn''t a matter of will the asscher fit, it is more "what would you do?" in my situation?? I like the sparkle of the cushion, but the asscher is sleek and classic... what would you do in this situation?!

please help a girl out!

Thanks!

you keep the asscher and buy me the cushion? No? LOL...

It''s easy for me, I''d take the G cushion over the asscher any day. I would want an asscher in colorless range...or a G but no lower I think. The cushion is probably a lot larger too? (but at that size, I don''t think it matter much)

But which one do YOU want???

I tried on a 5+ carat asscher with bullet sidestones and almost ran out of the show with it (we were at an antique show). It was beautiful and sparkly. But, if I were you, I would go see it to compare. It''s so difficult to know which one is right without seeing it on your finger.

for the longest time I thought asschers were my dream shapes but lately I drool over the brillance of beautifully cut cushions!!!! I think they both convey different but wonderful images- I always think "old money" when I think asscher and "hollywood glamour" when I consider cushions- which are both silly but just my mental pictures & input....can''t you get both

I think in the long run you will appreciate the fire and the brilliance of the cushion. I adore asschers, but that just my thought. Tough choice!!!

What a wonderful dilemma!

Asscher. 1) because I loves ''em, and 2) because I would prefer a smaller look.

Can''t wait to see pictures of whatever you choose!

Thank you for the input so far! I have been religiously checking this forum about this! Yes, I am a crazy woman! As far as being able to see both diamonds, yes, we went in and looked at it. So sparkly! Both of the stones were talking to me. The cushion was saying "look at me, I am super sparkly" and the asscher was saying "look at me, i''m a flash sparkly!" I just value the opinions of you all here on things like this! Asscher..........cushion........?? The million dollar question!

fountainfairfax - old money in a bad way??? eek! I would LOVE to be able to own both a cushion and asscher, but fi says No way Jose!

Also, I dont know if any others out there read bridal mags, but I bought the new issue of InStyle weddings and they have a pic of a Harry Winston Cushion ring that was set in micropave...to DIE for! But when I was checking that article out, the HW cushion had some serious windowing issues! The stone was set with prongs but with the "halo" of pave around it and you could totally see the other side of the pave through the stone. I didn''t check the cushion out for windowing when we were at the jeweler''s. Is it normal for cushions to distribute that ammount of windowing???

Thanks for the input all, keep it coming, I have until Saturday to decide!!!

Gosh...I''d love to be in your position! I think someone else said this, but is there anyway to compare them side by side? I think that will give you a better jumping off point for making a decision. I LOVE both cuts myself, but I think I''d take the cushion for my engagement ring. Get the asscher for a nice RHR.

Although Melania and Trump are new money and they have a step cut (emerald)...

I bet an asscher really does look amazing in a 5 ct so you can really see and appreciate the steps

p.s. I change my opinion LOL...if it's an antique cushion look v. asscher, I pick the asscher

Schmoopy-Do you have a picture of your pave setting? I''d love to see it!!

I''d have to say, which stone/shape do you like? It''s all up to you! Either way, you are getting a awesome rock!

Now that I''ve read your post (we were posting at the same time before) I am going to do a moremoremore and change my opinion. Based upon your response to the asscher I say go for that one. But it really depends on your own style. Or...flip a coin (LOL!)

I wish I had your dilemma.

Here''s my 2¢.

If the cut grades were both equal, I would go for the cushion. I like the better color and on a large stone, color is more obvious. I also love the sparkle of cushions.

Don''t get me wrong, I love asshers. If my hubby were to give an assher like the one you''ve described, I''d faint, then take it (and wonder what he''s been up to!!!)

A friend has a 4-carat assher. I can''t keep my eyes off it it''s so gorgeous.

does a more difficult decision EXIST?!

personally, i want sparkle in an e-ring, so i could go with the cushion. but asscher is a close 2nd fav, and i certainly would not turn it down. in the end, it''s your preference. which stone would you feel disappointed to not receive?

I''d take the asscher. For sparkle, I''d just go with a ideal RB but asscher just seems much more distinctive to me than a cushion. Plus the size is slightly more wearable (at least for me for the smaller size would be a plus in this range). I do wonder though if H would be white enough in a 5-carat rock.
