Kinda like a MS "Good Things" thread.
What are some ideas, suggestions or thoughts you''ve had that you''d like to share.

Some of the ladies on here mentioned WATER or sweet tea (sweet iced tea) at the ceremony for guests.

I love the idea of a toiletries basket for the ladies bathroom (anyone got a list of things to put in these?)

I just came across this placecard holder idea I''m going to do-- perfect for a winery wedding (see the pic at the bottom of post)

Flip flop for ladies if the event is long or the ground is uneven.

What are some ideas you''ve had, or seen?

The basket of toiletries is always a lifesaver! Static guard is always handy, tissues, pantyhose, safety pins, hairspray, feminine products if the bathroom doesn't have any means for that (worst emergency ever is a surprise from aunt flow).

Hey Gypsy,

We''re planning to do the cork place card holders, too! (Except horizontally instead of vertically). Just a tip...I didn''t know this before, but apparently cork has the ability to "heal" itself. So you don''t want to cut the indents too soon otherwise the cork will grow back and fill in!

We''re also planning to offer a Welcome Bar before the ceremony w/ mango lassi since half my friends are Indian and we love Indian food :)

I''m also considering a Polaroid guest book, but I haven''t gotten around to actually buying a Polaroid yet even though I know I need to get on that since they''re not making the film anymore. Booo

Here''s what we''re having for our bathroom basket:

bandaids
shout wipes
clear nail polish (for runs in nylons)
safety pins
bobby pins
hairspray
mints
tylenol/ibuprofen
tissues
static spray
oil sheets
artificial tears
hand lotion

Ohhh. Great list of things for the toiletries basket. I would have forgotten half of those.

I was thinking of adding:
Deodorant/ antipresipirant
Hair brush
Hand lotion
Neosporin

I would like to put tylenol and ibuprofin in, but I'm afraid of doing that. I'm even worried about the neosporin. Liability fears (I'm such a freaking lawyer I make myself ill) I'll have to look it up and see what the laws in CA are. (Crazy I know).

Hi Newb-- I've seen them horizontal, but they looked like way too much work (LOL) so I got lazy. These look easier (though not as nice, admittedly). And knowing how much we procrastinate... I'm sure they will be done at the last minute. Great tip on the healing properties of cork though, that would have been very frustrating.

I love the Mango Lassi bar!!! Great idea!

The polaroid guest book is cute too, personally though, I'd worry about people wasting exposures trying to get a good pic of themselves. LOL.

I'd love to get as many ideas in here as possible for other brides reference!

ETA:
Mouthwash
Mints

Do I need a toiletries for the Men's bathroom, or just one for the ladies? I was planning on the ladies bath only.

We''re doing a photo guest book instead. Using a portable photo printer and a digital camera. Print one photo while the next person gets theirs taken.
We''re making a cloth PVC backdrop to make it work, it woud also work for a polaroid guestbook table as well. Use double sided tape for guests to stick the photos to the book. Etsy makes great photo guestbooks for a low price.

http://www.tickledpinkbrides.com/brideblog/2008/06/using-fabric-for-wedding-customization.html

The PVC backdrop parts supposedly cost less than 20 bucks to buy!

(you can see their cute flip flop basked in the bottom right hand corner)

I like that idea Violet! Plus you can re-use the equipment!

I know you all have''m... spill, what ideas have you been harboring?

Since we''re having a small wedding, I''ve been tinkering with the idea of having each place card be a photo of the guest + my FI or me (or both). The only thing making me hesitate is that I''d have to be able to get EVERYONE - no leaving out someone''s guest or something. I think it could be great fun to have pictures spanning the last 30 years or so. I''ve got a year to sneak pictures if I need some to fill in.

Or maybe we won''t have a seated dinner. Who knows?

Here''s my list:

Ladies:
Deodorant.
A light scent
Hair brush and a comb.
Ponds Makeup removal pads.
Loose face powder and some cotton balls to apply.
Q-tips.

Tide stain removal pen/ Shout wipes
Immodium and/or Pepto tablets
TUMS
Bobby pins
Saftey pins
Bug Spray
bandaids
tissues
static spray

Mouthwash
Mints
Mens:

Moutwash
Bandaids
Neosporin
Solarcane

Jeez...these are some expensive bathroom baskets!

One idea I love is being an out of town guest, and being surprised when I walk into the hotel room with a gift basket! I want to do this as well since we''ll have several out of towners.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the flip flop idea! A basket of them on the dance floor would be much appreciated I think.

Lanie, it's only two baskets. One for each bathroom at the venue. And most of the stuff, if leftover will be useful anyway. So I'm okay with it.

My FI loves the OOT guest baskets too. So it looks like we're going to consider them. What are you planning on putting in yours?

Holy Canola that''s a long list.

I just checked with DD and she said that her coordinator told her "no" on the basket because, unfortunately her venue requires her guests to walk out of the room into the "public bathroom" and the basket would be gone before the cocktail hour was over.

Oh well, it was a good thought.

I love how you plan Gypsy!!

Ahh, well that''s different. We have use of the whole facility starting at 4:00 (just before that the tasting room is open, the rest is ours, but the tasting room is next to the bathroom). So the Caterer (or my DOC) will put the tioletries out right before the ceremony (at 4:00 when guests should start to arrive).

It is a long list and when I''m in the store I may edit it down some. Much of it is stuff I''m running low of in my house though... and some of it is stuff I buy in bulk from Costco for ourselves.

As for the planning. Thank you for the encouragement. I didn''t respond to your thread about the vows and the ceremony because well... John and I pretty much eradicated all mention of religion in our ceremony we just planned. God is mentioned once-- and it''s optional. So I didn''t feel qualified to comment.

Same with my daughter. Just once and it''s me....but I am considering a change to Goddess.

We found these super snazzy cocktail plates that hold your wine - so you have a free hand during cocktail hour. Plus, we were able to customize the plates with our monogram!

I just re-discovered this thread. Gypsy, did you end up doing the bathroom baskets like you planned? I think I''m going to do them... mind if I ask about how much all the items came to?

I finished ribboning and tagging all my flip flops last night! I should post a pic. I don''t have the metal tub thing I''m going to put them in yet though...

One of my "cute ideas"... well, more like YUMMY... is that we offered blueberry tea in addition to regular. There is a really cute tearoom around here that sells specialty teas and the blueberry is absolutely AMAZING so I purchased some for my venue to make. It was a nice touch.

Gypsy... I don't know if you already made it but as far as the toiletry basket goes, I'm not sure that a brush and comb are the best ideas. I would feel weird using a brush that I knew someone else had used 10 mins before. Different people have different products they put in their hair or different hygiene practices. Does that make sense? Maybe I'm just crazy... lol

Thongs are such a great idea!! I am having a small destination wedding near/on the beach so I am going to buy thongs for everyone to wear at the reception when our footsies get sore - and they will look great in the pics too! Great idea - pink ones for the girls and blue for the boys!!

I just remembered that you guys think thongs are something else entirely to what I was talking about!! I mean flip flops, not 'thongs'! Well, I will def be wearing one of those too but that's another story......

Hey, Gypsy, the laws in CA regarding the over the counter painkillers are that you can have them available, and if people choose to self-medicate its their own liability. On the other hand, if you give them (hand them) the medication and they take it and have an adverse reaction, the liability is then on you.

I know this because I lead outdoor trips and have taken advanced first aid courses, and they have taught us this (to avoid liability to the organization for whom I lead the trips).

I was going to assemble a mini-hangover kit with ibuprofen and alka seltzer in the welcome bags... Am I liable since it''s in a gift bag I give them?

Honey I was watching the Rose of Tralee last night (don''t laugh, I swear there was nothing else on!) and the Sydney Rose said she loved living near Bondi Beach because she never wears anything other than bikini tops and thongs. There was the most awkward nervous titter from the audience and the poor girl stood there grinning, completely oblivious to the scandalous assertion she''d just made!

I am in a wedding this september. the bride is having a beach themed wedding. she spent all summer collecting large clam shells on the beach in nj.. we bleached them .. kept them in the sun until they were nice and white.. coated them with glue mixture that gave them a little shine.. and i am now in the process of doing caligraphy of everyone''s name and table # .. they are actually really beautiful. we have filled baskets with sand to prop up the shell escort cards.

I just assembled my bathroom baskets, so I thought I'd post my info here! They're comparatively small compared to the lists above, but since our budget is getting a wee bit strained (dang stock market), I cut back to what I consider to be the 'essentials.'

The baskets and tissue paper (in the base for support of the products) cost $8 total, from Michael's. The toiletry items came to about $48 at Target. I got all of them from the little sample/travel size bins. So, $56 total for the project.

I'm going to print up little notes to stick in there, because FI's reaction to this idea was "well they'll just think the venue provided it"

haha. He wants us to get the credit.

Anyway, here's what's in them:

Girls' Basket
Mouthwash
Tylenol
Dental Floss
Tums
Q-Tips
Band-aids (Hello Kitty

-->I bought the decorative tampax boxes in lites and regular, as well as a package of pantyliners, but those don't fit in the basket)

We didn''t have alcohol at our wedding due to personal beliefs. Instead we had a fresh fruit smoothie bar. It was a hit with all of the guests; I think everyone had at least two a piece.
