Okay PSers and Industry guru's please Clarify. Kim Kardashians 15 carat ring is D flawless Type II a diamond. The article states less then 10% of mined diamons are IIa....

Please explain furthure.

42 lookers and no responses so I looked it up my self here it is

Type IIa diamonds make up 1–2% of all natural diamonds (1.8% of gem diamonds). These diamonds are almost or entirely devoid of impurities, and consequently are usually colourless and have the highest thermal conductivity. They are very transparent in ultraviolet, down to 230 nm. Occasionally, while Type IIa diamonds are being extruded towards the surface of the Earth, the pressure and tension can cause structural anomalies arising through plastic deformation during the growth of the tetrahedral crystal structure, leading to imperfections. These imperfections can confer a yellow, brown, orange, pink, red, or purple colour to the gem. Type IIa diamonds can have their structural deformations "repaired" via a high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) process, removing much or all of the diamond's color.[7] Type IIa diamonds constitute a great percentage of Australian production. Many large famous diamonds, e.g. Cullinan and Koh-i-Noor, are Type IIa.

I am sorry to say this, but I just don't think that ring is all that flattering on her. It is too big for her finger. Yes, I can appreciate the diamond itself, obviously, but I think the lucky ladies here that have 5-7 carat stones have much better taste! Feel sorry for her husband #3, though, having to follow this one.

Diamondseeker2006 - Your comment made me giggle! I do wonder how you follow that ring up...can't really do bigger and pink has been done. Maybe a rare blue diamond? I bet that would make strong blue florescence popular (outside of PS)!

Interesting info heiddiddl! I had not heard that term before. I would love to see the diamond in person!

I spent hours researching this IIA diamond and two of this type are in the Queens jewels in london. evidentally besides IIB this is the rarest cleanest purist diamond known to man Hence the worth of $5-8 million. dang.

actually this is husband #3. :P apparantly she married the first time at 19yrs old in 2000 and divorced in 2003. of course this all happened 'pre sex tape' so nobody knew she existed then

so you should feel sorry for husband #4

I cannot believe I am saying this but I agree. LOL I never thought the day would come where I thought a diamond was too big for someone but there you have it. Now ask me about making that into a pendant and wowza! :cheeky:

Here is the actual stone D flawless Type IIa

I'm sure it's real, but wouldn't it be a gas if it were not. It sure looks fake since it's so high color and clear.

I have to say for such a nice stone that setting is really marginal.

You think it's too big for Kim? Call her up and tell her to send it to me. I can rock it :appl:  :wavey:

HI:

Yes, it is large for her--and I cannot believe the setting is so fine. Not enough metal for that ctw.

I would ask her for a trade of my 5 carat stone, but if I get the ring it follows I also should get her intended. Yanno what, I'll stick to my pebble and my old man. :saint:  :rodent: ;))

cheers--Sharon

I don't like it. Its big. Its white, but so? Nothings got my eyes  I think diamonds need some personality. If this stone was a person, They'd be too rigid for me.

I guess I am just not one to appreciate those specs.

Also, I think its too big for the shape. Make it a marquise or an asscher. Or an oval. It would look good. Now it just looks like a literal rock.

She's trash. Deserves a CZ on her best day. Sorry. Is that mean?

Is it just my eyes or does it look pink in that picture LOL! :errrr:

not pink...that's her finger showing through the window effect. Whatever shape it is, the cut doesn't look amazing. Maybe it really is a CZ.

Makes you appreciate the celebrities with big, but understated bling. This is just...tacky.

I would like to see a face on picture. It just looks like a shines blob on a very tiny band. I am not impressed. I liked the last one better.

Yeah, window showing her skin.

I like the stone, but don't like the setting.

Why do people insist on plunking huge rocks on a tiny, 1.7mm shank? I just think it's asking for trouble.

Did she get a nose job with that ring? She seems to look different.

I think she refilled and botoxed lol. I think the ring would look much nicer as a split shank.

split shank, maybe set EW? i think that would ad a lot of personality. Though i feel like she doesnt have that, so i suppose it fits.

Bah! i shouldnt be catty, shes just boooring and this stone is boooring me.

I love this diamond and a D color and Type IIA wow. I tried rethinking and looking again but can't see it as looking too big on her hand. I have seen some before on stars I thought that of. I really like the way the light shows the diamond off so clear and perfect like dew water. I would love a 1 carat D type IIa, heck even a half carat would do. LUCKY lady. I like the ring mount, nice and simple with a touch of sparkle but think I would want it a bit thicker to hold that boulder. There again she will be living a life of leisure so won't need it for strength probably.

Love this diamond, so unusual and of top quality. and huge.

As it is so unusual and huge, I wonder if it belonged to someone else before.

I guess his thought process was to have the stone look like it was floating in air. Plus is she had the perfect setting and since she probably suffer from DSS than all she can do it consider changing the setting.

I am sure that this ring is going to keep turning round unless she has balls inside. so after it keeps moving andd annoying her she'll change the setting.

LOL I guess since I struggle to pay the mortgage each month and still love jewelery and want jewelry that I am envious that a girl that has no talent can still work her way to $40 million net worth lol.

Are these the type of diamonds called something, I forget the name, and from a certain geographical area?

I get the colorless part with the absence of nitrogen? and the rarity, does anyone have one or seen one? Besides being a D, is there anything optically that makes it special or worth the price, other than knowing you have something rare?

I was thinking the same thing when I first saw it, like I wonder with a small child and special events how long that tiny micropave setting is going to last. But hey maybe she takes it off and wears a fake stand in that no-one knows about or something.....

yes utter garbage. i would like to start a worldwide boycott of the whole bunch. vulgar and classless.

Yes they are called Golconda. There was posts not too long ago about them I believe. Very rare, only for very rich.
The Hope Diamond is one.

“Only 2 percent of all diamonds are found in this Type II category,” said Thomas M. Moses, senior vice president of laboratory and research at the Gemological Institute of America, G.I.A.. “Because they’re so pure, they transmit UV and visible light that Type I diamonds block. They have a clear, limpid, transparent nature. They look like ice cubes.”

There was a large diamond with similar characteristics (color, clarity and category) for the longest time on S, C & L's website (and First Dibs)--but alas it is gone. I was surprised a diamond of such rarity would be listed on a website vs. at auction. Obviously they need none of my marketing help--LOL since it is no longer listed!

cheers--Sharon
