I have a pair of blue sapphire earrings, and unfortunately lost one. They were a gift so I'd like to find a stone to match the remaining earring, which means shopping in person vs online. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.
Number one: THE GEM SHOW IS THIS WEEKEND AT DALLAS MARKET HALL. This is probably your best bet. It is noon-6 today, 10-6 tomorrow, and 11-5 Sunday. Intergem.net for more information. Some vendors PSers have recommended are Prima Gems and Vance Gems - maybe someone else will come along with another recommendation. There are a TON of vendors with a ton of things. You can just bring your earring around and ask for matches and see what they come up with. I'm heading there at noonish today, and while I'm not looking for sapphires, if you can post a pic or two and give the specs, I'll try to keep an eye out.
I bought my engagement ring at Mariloff at the World Trade Center - they have to call sapphires in, and I don't know if they'd be able to find a match, but possibly? Skibell in Preston Center has told me on when I've visited that they can match sapphires for me for a sapphire wedding band, so they may have a good source. My preferred jeweler atm is Sergio's in Casa Linda - they have a ton of schlocky Disney stuff in the front, which I guess draws cat ladies in, or something, but are very friendly and have been highly recommended to me (I have my mom's antique e-ring there getting repaired right now, so I'll have a report soon on their skill). I am not sure about their sources for colored stones though, but you can always pop in and ask them.
Vance Gems was very helpful, but didn't have anything. She said that sapphires, especially >5mm were way up. I found a match at B&B. It was a pretty .91 ct stone for $591. Sadly, that was more than I planned to spend. I have been toying with getting an art deco setting (looked at Village Goldsmith last weekend). I found a nice art deco inspired white gold setting for <$700 so am going that route. It should be shipped in a week so pics to follow.
While I was looking for a ring I found some lovely estate pear and marquise diamond cluster earrings. These completely blow my jewelry budget for the rest of the year, but I couldn't help myself. I'll need to get them appraised and planned to use Geolat based on feedback here. If you have a recommendation please let me know.
What did you get? And, what didn't you get but are still thinking about? It seemed like most people there were interested in diamonds instead of colored stones.
Wow! Beautiful pair of earrings, I can see why you found them irresistible. How envious I am of all these gem shows you are able to go to in the US - there's nothing like that in OZ, certainly not in my state.
