Have you seen the Mahenge spinel Gene just put up? It is gorgeous but a tad big (5.5mm).

oops - I see it has already been sold.
Oh man, beautiful. I must check his blog 400 times a day, and the one second I don''t, he puts something up, and I miss it.

I hope a PS-er got it and we get lots of pics.

Oooh. I cannot believe there is a thread about this!

It is nice to see that PS''ers are getting these pretties. But keep your mitts off any larger sapphires - they are M.I.N.E! (

Sorry Lori, I snatched up the barion octagonal tourmaline. Though I''d be willing to particpate in a PS colored stones time share pool!

Do we know who got the pink?

Mochi- congrats on the spess! I hope it''s orange candy in person too.

Ooh congrats Mercoledi! Please post pics when you get it!

Rats, no I did not. I am buying some gold soon - sadly it''s a crown for a tooth I broke which is seriously cutting in to my gemstone / jewelry buying. Hopefully some lucky PS member will be posting pictures of that beauty when they get it.

Aw shucks. Well I hope your tooth is ok!

What other stones have been bought by PSers?

Oh, Marcy... priorities, I guess. I was hoping that you got it.

I was hoping you got it too.

So who is expecting gems tomorrow and Friday? I can''t wait to see pics!!!!

Aw Marcy that''s too bad about your tooth!
7.gif
On the other hand, that IS kind of a jewelry purchase right?

Thanks Freke, Mochi and Brown Eyed Girl.My tooth is fine now. They have a temporary on it.I broke off a corner of a tooth.I guess I could pretend like it''s getting new jewelry but for some reason it''s just not as exciting.

Hey Mercoledi!

Dan has just offered the tourmaline to me......can you please tell me if there is something wrong with it?

Thank you!

Hi Lori,
There isn't anything wrong with it, it just isn't what I had in mind.

It's a pretty stone, darker than the picture online looks on my computers (like all Dan stones). The stone is really interesting, it has blue-green tones and yellow-green depending on the lighting and it's orientation. It has a really neat facet pattern and does a sort of swirling brilliance thing. It's a really nice size, especially for the price. It does window some, like most tourms, but probably wouldn't once set. It would make a nice ring or pendant. Sadly, I knew at first sight that it wasn't love.

I recently bought some other tourmalines, and since the color wasn't spot on and it didn't perform *quite* the way I wanted it to in my day-to-day lighting environments, I sent it back and got a spinel in a similar cut. I'm a little spoiled and wanted more brilliance than is really normal for tourmalines. I also live in a dark little corner of this country and so if a stone won't light up for me in my apartment or workplace, it isn't going to work out. If you live someplace where it's actually spring now, you may see it much differently. I have some pictures that I took, but I don't know how comfortable I am posting them since it's not my stone anymore. Basically, to me it was a nice stone, but not a OH WOW OMG!!! kind of stone and since my rock budget is limited, I'm trying only to pick up true wild stunners. My favorite lighting for it was a mix of diffused daylight and recessed canister lights. In that lighting it had a bright eight arrow pattern similar to the stone in your avatar. If I had those in my house, I would totally have kept the rock, but since I can't stand in that stairwell all day, I sent it back.

Enough data for you? If you don't need it to be a light grassy color, give it a try. It's a fun cut.

Thank you Mercoledi.....more than enough info.....I trust your opinion and that is why I asked.
