Hello everyone!

I purchased a lemon-lime green chrysoberyl last week from an online vendor and was sent the wrong stone. I initially told them I didn't want this one and would send back on Monday, but the more I look at it the more I like it. My question is though, what is the value of a dark green chrysoberyl so I can make an offer? All I can find online are the yellow, yellow-green, neon, etc. It is round (obviously) and weighs 2.25ct. Thanks for any help!20180715_155656.jpg

P.S. they apologized profusely and are sending the correct stone Monday.

I don’t know what it’s worth but think it’s gorgeous! Either way I hope you get the stone you want.

Edited to add that the stone appears darker irl than in the above image, more like the most beautiful peridot in the galaxy, ha.

Thank you for your response. I'm confident they will send the other, I just am now wondering if I will regret sending this one back!

ohh, I really like that stone! I would definitely make an offer if I were you, but obviously no idea how much it would be worth.

To me this is an ideal colour. I am looking for an apple green chrysoberyl

It appears to be a beautiful stone in a relatively hard to find round that is not windowed. I would offer at least $275 or more depending on how it looks IRL. But that is just me.

Thank you for your advice. That range was just what I was thinking too.

That is gorgeous! That color reminds me of my sphene, which I wear with my chrysoberyl earrings. Please keep it! It’s so perfect.

Chiming in to say it’s lovely! No idea what to offer but you should definitely negotiate. Think about what it would cost them to ship back the stone and for them to mail it out again to another buyer, and that is a starting point for what they would save by letting you buy it.

Considering that it should all be about liking your stone, I think you are lucky they sent the wrong one. I imagine for the seller it makes much difference what color the gem is (at least in a normal chrysoberyl), but returning may be the bigger headache for them. Just say you take this one instead and if they would give you a small credit for the next buy since they saved themselves the return cost. That's win-win.

Very pretty! Keep it and then tell us who this vendor is! Clearly he/she has very nice stuff!

Yeah, though you might not get what you ordered. LOL

Please tell us who this vendor is. We don’t see chrysoberyls like this every day.

Honestly lovely! It kind of feels like serendipity?

Are you sure it is chrysoberyl?

Not peridot, demantoid, Mali garnet, grossular or titanite...?

This color would be very rare in chrysoberyl...

keep it!
you don't see these too often

Love this color. Soft and beautiful and glowy.

what she said. Is there a cert?

Looks to me like vanadium chrysto. yes lab report needed, or if you do buy, be sure of the return policy first. These stones can be quite rare in any appreciable sizes.

Of course it would be gorgous course a green chrysoberyl in the beautiful color, size, clarity and shape is indeed rare...

But they send the „wrong stone“ so why not some other mineral.

The pic is to good to be true - a little bit.

I went back and reread the OP. So OP you're saying you still have this stone? If so, send it to get a gem brief from a lab as they generally are not that expensive. You'll at least get a clue what it is going that route if you really want to keep it.

It may look like a VC but it may not be, could be just a regular ol chrysto (or could be a peridot!). IMO, Best to let an independent lab make that call if you have no experience or the equipment to do so.

Because if its a VC, its going to be worth a heck of a lot more than 200 bucks.

Yes, much more...

I'm dying to know if you are allowed to keep this one for the same price and it ends up being a VC.

What did the vendor say when you said you wanted to return??

Did the vendor say what this stone is?
Do you see this stone pictured/listed on their website?
It is pretty.

Edited just because.

Oh, wow everyone. I may have made a huge mistake, it appears. I already sent it back as green stones in this shade aren't my thing, and I figured I would never get around to setting and wearing it for that reason. I never considered it could be vanadium because I wrongly assumed they had to have a bluish modifier for that. But after seeing the video Arcadian posted, it was very close to that shade. IRL the color is less "apple green" than my pic, with more of a yellow modifier. No, there wasn't a report with it. I purchased from an Etsy store that also is a brick and mortar custom jewelry shop. She says my purchased stone should arrive today. I also can look up the name of the Etsy store for anyone who is interested in pouncing on my novice mistake. It probably hasn't arrived back to her yet though. The price that was written on the gem box with the weight and Chrysoberyl was $315.

I did get the stone I ordered and it's more lovely than I even expected, so I'm a very happy camper. Thanks everyone!20180718_174217.jpg

I love the stone you purchased - and finally received! I had actually had it saved in my favorites thinking it looked minty like a Vanadium Chrysoberyl. What do you think @Nosean ? I remember you mentioning you sent V. chrysoberyls to GIA.

Maybe this vendor stumbled across a couple of V. Chrysoberyls and didn’t even know it. Yours is a gorgeous stone.
