It was the first thing I noticed today.

I have admired his SAGE advice over the years and was thrilled to have the opportunity to learn about his family business. If you get time, he has a PDF essay that takes you back in time to how his grandfather started the business.

It reads like a script from a movie with great photo stills that aid in narration. It is also a snapshot of how wonderful turn of the century America was, and still is. How so many people yearned to start a new life in this great land, and that they did anything and everything to get here. (That never changes). Boats still capsize, lives put at risk just for the chance. Feeling a bit patriotic today, yea, after reading how Grandfather Atlas made it home, you betcha.

Hard work, dedication, and determination in a 12 year old boy...with no support or education, well, his success is so thrilling to read. (I know several 13 year old boys today...and well I should just say times have changed!) He stood out from a sea of average...and his legacy still does.

I read how character and integrity left an indelible mark in the industry. You can read Old Miners resume and accolades and know he has continued in the same vain.

I think that Grandfather Atlas would be proud in David's success. His dedication to the PS community has been respected greatly. Old Miner is known by his many threads filled with sage advice.

Hope you take the time to read it too...I bet no matter what nation is your home, you too will be thrilled to experience it.

Many thanks for the very nice comments. I hope to be an active participant here for many years to come. Advertising here is just one further vote in favor of a very good place on the Internet, Pricescope.

I saw that too! I hope it gives Dave''s company more visibility, considering what a huge asset it is.

Are you now also engaged in retail selling of diamonds and jewelry?
Please clarify.

No way would I ever willingly enter the retailer''s arena. I have nothing but respect for those who have chosen the retail end of the business when they do the great job many of the vendors here do for the consumer. My appraisal business and buying business are run without any desire to make ANY retail sales. I will continue to support legitimate retailers to the fullest extent and to tell the hard truth to consumers who need solid advice. I appreciate your question. It certainly would be an important element to pass over without mention.

Good luck to you, Mr. Atlas...

Will you be in both the center city office as well as your other office or will you be more likely to frequent one over the other?

The Philadelphia Director tends to inhabit the downtown Philadelphia office more than I do. I am usually found at our Horsham address, but both of us travel as required. As many years as I spent on Jeweler''s Row I can''t say I miss being there. Downtown now we have a wonderful view of Philly''s City Hall from a nice secure 12th floor location with a big picture window.

Nice, David. 15th and Market I''m sure looks wonderful from where you are, especially with City Hall getting cleaned up so nicely in recent years. It is one magnificent structure. Not sure I miss Jeweler''s Row so much either, so I''m with you there.

Best wishes.
